Hey guys, got back from Brissy on Friday arvo with a new 1.3L from want33 and have been working hard to get it installed. it is all in and hooked up but I have a couple of vacuum hoses left to connect and I can't figure out where they go for the life of me. I have googled and searched forever, found so much info but most is for the American samurai and it seems very different. Found some old posts on here that helped with a few though. (1) I need to know where to attach the two hoses from the bvsv sensor (little sensor with two hose nipples that attaches on the right of the thermostat housing on the intake manifold) (2) Also how does the 3 way solenoid valve hook up, I'm pretty sure the bottom hose attached near by to the intake manifold, but the second hose just above the first, I don't know where that goes. (3) The last thing is the fast idle actuator vacuum hose, I can't remember where this hooks up (I took pictures of all of this ages ago when I rebuilt the carby but god damn I cant find them anywhere :S) Also, I started putting oil in the engine, but nothing registered on the dip stick? I ended up putting in the whole bottle (4L) but still absolutely nothing shows on the dipstick? usually I find 3L fills up a 1.3. The engine has been rebuilt, has a brand new oil filter and a new oil pump, but surely something would show up. Am I doing something wrong? It's not leaking out. Would just like to know what is going on and if I need to add more oil or do something else? Also, when I go to start it, with a new oil pump what should I do? I know thats a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate the help And really want to be able to get this car back on the road If I haven't explained things well enough, let me know and I'll post pics tomorrow Cheers guys

EDIT: straight from the haynes factory service manual, 4.4L. i would assume you add about 200-300ml for the oil filter too. pour in four, crank the engine over a few times, let it sit a few minutes then you can check the level anyway

again, straight from the haynes FSM, initial start up an dbreak in procedure: "with spark plugs out of the engine and ignition system disabled, crank the engine until oil pressure registers on the gauge."
i dont see the need for spark plugs to come out, just the lead from the coil to the dizzy undone.

thanks, I guess taking the sparks out just makes it easier to crank

Yeah, makes it easier to crank, spins faster and gets oil pressure up quickly and takes the strain off everything.

Does anyone have any photos of the carby vacuum tubes or any links to some good photos?

This is the diagram I need, but I only have the samurai workshop manuals and this is all I can find online as well, the sierra seems rather different. If anyone has correct diagram in their manual you reckon you could take a quick snap for me? or point out the differences? Thanks guys

This is fucked, I cant get this shit right :S
I don't understand the diagram, It seems to have lots of stuff I don't, I don't have a 2 step idle up, can only see 1 bvsv, not three, I can only see one twsv three way solenoid valve not two! I'd really appreciate if someone could point out on the diagram the parts relevant to my original questions :S
The timing is also obviously an issue, it will turn over but not start, pops and sputters, I've got it set roughly where I thought it should be, can't time it till it is running..... could I have done something else wrong?
On top of all that, the water pump is leaking real bad, engine has been rebuilt will all new gaskets, but it seems fucked :S

I'm sure I've read on here about doing a traditional AZ extractors only run around the block... Good job dude, did you take an engine out to put the new one in or was there none in it, when we did mine we just marked all the hoses e.t.c. with tape and texta before swapping them all over, made it really easy. This will not fly for the g16b conversion though...

Yea, got to admit, was quite a bit of fun driving around with just the extractors, hehe I had to pull my engine out first but had a friend helping me so kinda rushed through it, if it was just me I would have tagged everything but yea, sometimes you just have to figure it out later. I had the 2" exhaust put on yesterday, cost me $220 from the cat back When I went to take it for the first run around the block, noticed a little water coming from the water pump, figured the gasket was broken, so put a bit was gasket glue around the outside as a temp, but after a couple of short drives it was pouring out everywhere, seems it was coming from the two little overflow holes on the pump itself, so figured that was totally shot, pretty pissed off about having to take so much crap out to get at the water pump :S Here is a comparison picture, left is the water pump on the new engine, right is my old one EDIT: Hey, I've edited the original diagram that I posted to match what I have done. I haven't included any carby to carby hoses as those shouldn't need to be taken off in the first place. I have removed all the other stuff as well. This diagram could be very very wrong, but maybe someone who knows more than me could have a look and I could make any corrections. This is how I currently have the carby set up like this and it all seems to be working good... If it is right, I hope it helps someone, otherwise let me know what I have wrong and I will re do the diagram Cheers
