i am just in the process of putting a G16b 8 valve into my sierra at the moment. it has a 1.3 head on it so i am able to bolt my old intake and exhaust etc onto it. this afternoon i went to put coolant into to get it ready and noticed there was a slow drip coming from between the intake manifold and the head? it has a brand new gasket amd both surfaces were very clean?? i didnt use any gasket goo or anything just the plain gasket. i have had it off a second time now to check and i couldnt see any foreign objects that would cause this?? can any one help please???
cheers jamie

Did you get the head machined before you put it on the first time?

hmm did you pull the bolts up properly. as in do 1 then 4 then 2 then 3 instead of doing 1234 also did you use a torque wrench? i think that could be your problem if not you might need it decked properly and all old gasket cleaned off. i dont think you need gasket goo for outlet cause its a thick gasket, what about inlet?

As Kenn suggested, the surfaces may need machining. The easier one will be the manifold. Are there any cracks there? You shouldn't need any goo but if you're feeling lazy or frustrated then goo may be your friend :D

i put a straight edge up to both surfaces and they appear to be perfect to the human eye.. the block side, im pretty sure has been machined as it is all shiny and polished back andn i would have thought they would machine it considering the engine is from suzi store with a warranty and everything?? and on the intake side we scraped all the old gasket off completely and then sanded any little bits off aswell that wouldnt come off with the scraper so it is very clean aswell?? i didnt use a torque wrench but they were evenly hand torqued up in the star pattern..

best thing to do would be to look where exactly its coming out from. then open it up and have a look at that exact area.. unless you can fix it from the out side.
