Hey guys
This is another tyre size question, I have read through a heap of post to try and find the answers but they just don't seem to hit the nail on the head for me.

I have a 97 swb vitara 1.6 with the 3" calmini suspension lift, I was hoping to throw some 30 x 9.5 r15's under it. (I know they will fit)
But I'm concerned about the gearing, some ppl are saying that it's fine others say it's not, I can't tell if they mean it's fine on road but bad off road or if it's fine off road or a bit dodgy doing your extreme off roading.

I'm sure many vitara owners on here have tried 30's, so please let me know how than ran, and what your limitations were. I love my 4wding but I'm not into the extreme mud bogging and cliff driving extreme stuff.
I'm just looking for the right size tyre to fit my usage.

Ps please do add just add reduction gears it will be fine, cause it would be cheaper just to use a smaller tyre.

Sorry that last part is meat to read please don't say just add reduction gears,

But to those who have put 30's on their vit what offset did you use for the rims. I think the census is -10 to -12 but I just want to confirm it

30's are fine.
-12 rims are also fine.
You will need to hammer the inner guards.

its a personal thing. in all honesty it will probably be bearable on road. but offroad its gonna suck balls.

run smaller tyres. its not gonna matter that much in the capability of a vitara any way

I dunno, with limited flex from the IFS front end an extra inch of diff clearance can make a big difference.

30s goes fine on a vit i was running that with a carby with the 4.6s of the factory auto (converted to manual) that was getting a bit long in the gearing, with the 5.12s you'll have under it, no worries, I dunno the offset of my rims, were on it when i got it

I had 33s with stock gearing( lwb manual vit ) and it was ok on road around town and would still do 100kph on the highway. Was ok in mud and sand but needed a lot of clutch in slow technical stuff.

It actually worked reasonably well and had awesome diff clearance

i found that the 9.5" wide tyre worked better all-round than the 10.5" wide 31's, the 30's will be fine.

Mate, gearing will be fine. find some 15x7 on -13, anything around that is good.
