Hery guys,

As title suggests i have a 2000 Baleno engine to go into my Sierra. Another local guy is having some trouble installing his 2000 model and it has the factopry immobilier so it got me thinking.

Mine came with a factory remote, would i assume that would be the immobilier?? I thought it was just for central locking.

I didi keep all of the wiring but i have already cut down the loom, does it sound like im ging to be running into any issues

My 2000 baleno motor/ ECU had no factory immobilizer. Probably just central locking remote.

How would you know for sure though?? Surely there would be a way of checking??

no baleno i know of had an engine imobiliser. i had no issues with either of the two ive put in sierras.

My last two Baleno harnesses had the 'black box'. They were deleted in each harness.

If its an aftermarket alarm(it will have brand markings) Its a bit different.

Mine has the black box, it won't even crank the engine unless you take out the fuse to the black box, I'm going with it's not going to be a drama because you have deleted that bit anyway so it should be fine.

Some 2000 Balenos did come with an immobiliser. I've got one in my zook. I haven't actually finished my conversion as I moved house recently and have been caught up with house renos etc. But from the research I did, you'll need the immobiliser and the ignition barrel and key. Check the FSM for info.

Funnily enough, I'm off to some wreckers this morning to find a Baleno with an ECU/Immobiliser etc that I can pinch. I really need to finish this conversion..

Michael's trolley tug has a 2000 Baleno motor and it had no immobiliser. We had the whole front cut so we'd have known. It was a base model car (manual windows, three door manual hatch) so maybe the higher spec cars had them?

Yeah that's just central locking. The immobiliser has a chip in the key and a sensor in the ignition barrel that reads that chip. The immobiliser unit then talks to the ecu. Without the immobiliser talking to the ECU, fuel is cut. I believe that is what happens anyway. Let me see if I can find the page from the FSM that explains it.

That remote looks VERY similar to the central locking remote I have for my DD. Mine is made by VGE/Dynamco you may be able to find a wiring diagram for the locking if its an aftermarket one installed by the dealer when the car was new.

Thats pretty much it. The key code must match the code stored in the immo and the immo code must match the code stored in the ECU or the ECU cuts fuel. Its worth mentioning that the immo is quite sensitive to voltage spikes; I repair lots that have blown up by people who have jump started the vehicle incorrectly.
