It appears that I need rear-wheel bearing on my GV, and as this is my first 4x4, are there any suggestions as to other modifications that can be done while these parts are off? I was given the impression by the mechanics that the bearings would need to be pressed out and therefore better to be done by a shop. Would this be correct? I was also quoted by Global Auto that the bearings would be about $88 per side...does this sound about right? Thanks for your help.
There's no obvious modification to do while the axles are out. If you were looking to install a locker, it's not a bad time, but it really won't save all that much cash by doing it along with the bearings.
If you're unfamiliar with heavyish mechanical work, I wouldn't do them myself.
I think $88 per side for a bearing and seal probably isn't too far off the money.
