Have you got an evap canister on there? I have heard of them filling with fuel when one of the valves associated with it sticks. Otherwise the carb overflowing would be a prime candidate but there should be an overflow pipe.

Ok got the car back from the mechanics. He's saved me a bit of cash and told me to do the oil change cause it still smells a bit like it might have a bit of petrol in it.

Awesome mechanic. He ran me through the whole process, Only charged me for three hours instead of four and basically saved my pride and joy.
