I have 6 narva spotties on the roof, all I use them for is a good amount of spread around the car pointed around 5M in front.

They draw a bit of current and am wanting to replace them with Cree led spotties (importing them from china myself because the ones from supercheap I can buy 3 for the price of 1!) what's people's opinions on Cree led for spread light only?

I'll be keeping my 2 hid narva big ones for hwy use as these light up the road better then daylight! Only problem with them is I blind myself when going past street signs

Also since ill be replacing the narvas how much would I get for them? Just to help pay for the new ones. They are in good nick have the plastic covers on the 4 up front but the 2 up back went walk about, never been submerged (on roof) still got nice clear lenses with standard halogen bulbs

That's like asking what do people think of halogen bulbs.

The reflector, lens design and circuitry are just as important as the brand of led.

I have a 12inch 72w Cree LED lighting bar from china mounted on the front of my vit... and it's amazing... I only paid $110 for it including postage and it lights everything up... In fact my brother-in-law runs 4 big 9 inch halogen lights on his 4runner comp truck and mine blows his lighting out of the water... It's advertised as having 5000 lumen out of my little bar, I can't tell you exactly how much light it actually throws but its heaps...

I started importing & selling LED light bars last year as a sideline to my current business (LED lighting), ended up giving up as the markup wasn't there (everyone using eBay etc), plus had quality issues with the anodising fading resulting in me losing $shitloads.

I run a 42" LED bar on my Navara, 240w 14400lm, absolutely fantastic, love it, putting one on the sierra too seeing as I have them in the shed.

One thing people often get carried away with is the efficiency of LED's, the efficiency is how much light output you get per watt of power, in the end, 240W/12V is 20A.

I mention this as I've had numerous people complain about their bars only to find out they have run undersized cable etc because LED's are "efficient".

If you want details of manufacturers PM me, I can put you onto the good ones & steer you say from the bad.

I used to sell on eBay through school but found the hard way too when I paid direct deposit for my first real big load.... Cut things short ended up owing a lot of money to PayPal lost my power seller account and banned from eBay lol never again,

I'll post up details later but the specs you are spruiking are extremely similar to the ones I have.

If they are from "Huachuans" in China be very wary.

My 42" bars were $198 plus delivery, 8.5" 36W were about $40 from memory.

I use them on mine, work fine just shit anodising, ended up cleaning with oven cleaner, etch prime & spray gloss black. Look good now but dunno how that will last either.

Can I ask why you went for the bars rather than work lights (not to mention you asked about cree and went with epistar)

I'm just going to say that I don't think that light bars are worth it.

I debated the same thing on here with a few people and as much as people talked up the light bars they still didn't perform as well as a HID spottie.

The 'liquid light' comments are only cause there is allot of LEDs producing light from a very wide angle meaning they throw a less harsh shadow. If you had a heap of any spottie lined up along the front of your car it would give the same effect.

The LED bars don't do distance well. They have a good short distance spread. So for $250+ you have lit up the first 50metres or less.

I know that this is probably not a popular opinion, but I think the best lighting solution is HID spot light/euro or spread beam. And a small LED bar or a few decent looking LED work lights that will fill in the 90° spread.

I work with a few Auto Elec's and they rekon that LED bars are getting better and it will only be a few year before they can rival a HID for length and intensity of a HID. So I don't think there a complete write off just not as good as they could be so ill be waiting till they are.

The LED spotties I've not seen anything so if anyone has them let us know how they go.

My $85 dollar LED bar combined with some cheap 7" HID's would be ideal in my opinion.

They dont do distance, no one has ever said they do distance. They are a different style of light and couldn't be like a SPOT light.
The only thing i don't like about my LED bar is that the don't shoot 1km down the road, and I dont expect it to. Shits all over darkness.

I started off asking about Cree because that's the 1st ones I found that I liked the look of, now I have found these little bars and they look nicer and won't create so much drag on the highway



The top ones are what I'm getting rid of and keeping the front big spotties for shooting down the road, I like the short throw because I can have them on with out pissing the bloke off I'm driving behind out bush

And they look exactly like the pic posted above, I don't mind if the anodise comes off, I'll just spray them, the jimny is due for a paint job so might even colour match

True the HID's (even a good set of halogens) are better for distance, but a cheap LED bar is good for say 250m not just 50, for 4x4 work that's the best anyway.
I supplied a 400W LED bar to a UK company for use by an agricultural contractor, light is incredible and distance too, but cost me a grand from the manufacturer so clearly they won't sell in volumes.
If it was purely for road/high speed use I'd say don't bother with LED, if you want to 4x4 at night get LED bar.

Coincidentally I just got sent a price list today, come down again, 42" is now $160, to the O.P. I'd put one of them on instead of your 4x Narvas.
