I recently received my CTP renewal for my 1997 Sierra Hardtop. NRMA had increased the premium by $250 to about $750. I checked the MAA site and found AAMI was cheaper but after visiting their site there was a difference in the quoted premiums. After a phone call to AAMI I was told that the shape of my Sierra should have been a PVF (panel van four wheel drive) not a PVS (panel van with windows and seats). When the body shape was changed the quote was back to $480. I was advised to follow up this issue with the RMS. Another phone call had the rego changed from PVS to PVF. I received my rego papers today from the RMS. Last year $243, this year $126.

I thought I'd pass this on, as I am sure I am not the only Sierra owner in NSW with this category (PVS) on their rego papers. The RMS were quite happy to change the classification.

my swb soft top is a ute did try to change it to anything but to make rego cheaper but the blus slip guy told me there is no yay for them to change it.

My old fj40 was classed as a 2 seater ute, even tho had factory seat mounts in the back and a factory bench seat in the front with 3 seat belts, only way to change it as mr rta told me was to go get it engineered

on my first insurance policy on the sierra (as a P plater) mine was a:
4wd, Soft Top, Utility, Sports Car.

Apparently anything with less than 5 seats is a sports car. lol

My LWB soft top has covertable on the papers........

Just did the Rego on my XL7 and was amazed.. it was CHEAPER to register then my Magna..
Greenslip and Rego for my XL-7 was $750.... ($450 Greenslip and about $300 Rego)
The Magna........... $900 !!!!Magna was $600 for the Greenslip and $300 for Rego!!!!

Needless to say the Magna is GONE!!!

My '97 hardtop is stock standard and has back seats. My RAV4 is classified as a PVF.

Every hardtop Sierra sold in NSW (except for the very early 1.0 Sierras) has been factory fitted with 4 seats, and shown as such on the compliance plate. Why should the official description NOT be PVS?? If you, or a previous owner, has removed seats and seatbelts to change the vehicle classification you should have been required to undergo a new blueslip inspection. I have never heard of the RTA/RMS accepting vehicle classification changes by telephone before!
