Starting from what I am trying to change, I have a fairly stock manual 2009 Jimny which I use for a mix of commuting (freeway) and mild offroading to access climbing / abseiling points.
On the freeway the revs are way too high for my liking, it sits on 4,000-4,300 RPM.

I looked into changing the ratio of 5th gear, but can't find any options.
I have decided to fit 215/75/15s which compared to the 205/70/15s will increase the diameter from 668mm to 704mm, this equates to a 5% increase.
Although this would only drop the RPM by 200rpm I feel it's worth the change.

To ensure clearance I plan to do a body lift, although there are kits for 2" off the shelf, if the total height of the lift is over 50mm it will need to be engineered. (NSW Regs according to two engineers I have spoken to).
Factoring in the tyres providing 18mm of lift, this leaves me with 32mm / 1.25" worth of lift.

I have found a few places offering a 1" lift kit, but I am questioning if it is worth lifting it by only 1"

i'd got a spring lift over a bodylift especially if you have airbags + you'll gain ride comfort if you get something like the Old Man Emu kit that is tuned correctly & will not need engineering.

all suzuki's love to rev, too bad if you don't like it. should have bought a diesel... it's in that sweet spot where they make torque/power, getting out of that power band will make it doughy & you'll be grabbing 4th on the slightest of hills. changing 5th gear as you found out isn't viable, fitting a slightly larger diameter tyre is the logical solution, going to big is going to suck.

It might be correct that if you take the tyre diameter increase of close to 18mm then you only have 32 mm left but if you did the OME40mm lift then after a little sag in the springs you will be fine and I doubt if you will ever get picked up for it. If you are worriedkeep your 205 tyres and rims and get the 215 tyres on new rims and then you can always swap back for any inspection. I don't think you will get a body lift engineered on a 2009 model and I agree with Atari that you are better off with a suspension upgrade. I have the OME lift and 215 tyres.

What speeds are you doing on the freeway? Those revs seem a little high from memory for 100 or 110 kph in 5th but then I have been on 215's for many years now.

If u fit those tyres u wont need any lift at all , its all the same when it hits the bumpstop, I have 30" tyres with about 30mm lift

Thanks Gents, usually sitting at about 120-125kph.

Is anyone running 215 75 15s on stock rims and no lift?
I understand the 09 bumper has less clearance than the earlier ones.
