hey guys would anyone know why my 1.3 sierra stalls every time I start it from cold haha? It just won't run below 1500rpm (when cold) the only way to keep it running is to keep the revs up on the pedal or turn the fast idle screw in until it's over 1500rpm. Thing is the fast idle screw doesn't solve it, the engine's rpm increases as it warms up so when it's finally at operating temp it idles around 2000rpm instead of the 1500rpm. Strange thing is once it's warm I can adjust the fast screw back down to at a nice 800-1200rpm without it stalling!! Runs beautifully once warm it's only when it's cold!! I've made a few threads about it before (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=42710) and found a lot of the same problem with the search function but no luck with fixing it. I need to put the car in for RWC otherwise I'd prob just live with it haha (proud eb falcon owner being used to these kind of things).

The auto choke looks fine (the butterfly opens correct) I've adjusted the spring and cleaned it out with carby cleaner and it hasn't fixed anything I don't think it's the choke or the fast idle as something else besides these seems to be increasing the revs as the motor warms up... I'm a bit lost but it'd have to be carb related I think, or maybe the fuel pump isn't letting fuel in early enough?? It's only for the first 30 seconds or so it stalls, it doesn't need to warm up completely to keep running but it does get a lot better the warmer it gets as the revs increase. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure you are making the correct adjustments? There are two idle adjustments at the back of the carb, the fast (cold) idle and the hot idle. You need to adjust the fast idle with the engine stopped. Pull the throttle up about 2/3 to get at the adjustment screw. After you have it running at about 1500 revs cold let it reach operating temperature the adjust the hot idle. Tweak it again after it has become completely cold.

If you have done this then I suggest there may be something out of whack with the cam and cam follower arrangement that backs the throttle off as the auto choke opens.

Are the timing marks lined up on the choke set up?

I remember when messing out with my carby that i notice the trottle arm adjusting screw (fast idle) sits againts an arm that comes down from the choke arms. If it wasnt adjusted right the fast idle screw wouldnt work until it warmed up.

hey guys cheers looks like the choke marks were way out (spring was too tight) and it starting a little easier now!! It fires up a lot stronger I think the choke was just one part of the problem as it's still stalling out when cold unless I keep my foot on the pedal. Funny thing is if I start it without my foot on the pedal it will actually run fine at 1200rpm for a few seconds before spluttering out. As though it's fine at first then chokes itself out seconds later for some reason, and it goes away for some reason after a minute or so of warming up haha.

How old are the vacuum hoses? Have you cleaned the fuel cut solenoid?
