Today I swapped my rear short side axle with another one which has had a brand new bearing put on it. Tightened everything up and went for a quick test drive and noticed the brakes were pulsing while braking. I had a look at the rear wheel while driving and noticed it was wobbling quite a bit, almost as if the wheel was about to fall off

I stopped and checked everything and it was all tight. This had me stumped because I could understand a wobble if the bearing was stuffed, but this is a brand new bearing, no play at all. The only cause I could think of for the wobbling wheel and pulsing brakes was that either the diff housing is bent, or the axle itself is bent slightly.

So I decided to put my old axle back in to see if the wheel still wobbled. It didn't, all was fine. So this narrows it down to this new axle with the new bearing.

I do know that the axle is out of a sierra that was rolled. My question is....is it possible the axle itself it bent? causing the wobble, or could the studs the brake drum bolts to possibly be bent??

This has me stumped, and its a shame because its a waste of a good bearing that someone *cough*bluesuzy*cough* spent time and money putting on

sounds like your axle is bent. the end of the axel where the plate and studs go might be bent

Yep bent axle..outside the bearing I'd say.

is the drum seating onto the axle properly? my WT used to only go back on 1 way or it would pulse and wobble

If you keep it. Cut off the backing plate ant you will be able to get someone to press off the new bearing to reuse it. OR Next time your near me. Give me a buzz. I will come down to the gong and grab it off you to get the new bearing off.

The axles were out of a rolled car after all. No one said how fast the roll was..Seeing the housings centre locating hole was torn.. Sounds like the axles got the brunt of it too!!

Just checked this longside out of the rolled diff. Longside bent too. looks like im going shopping tomorrow! 1 axle and handbrake pins and clips!
