Ok, I'm selling my cruiser and downsizing to a 2000ish GV

We've got 3 young kids, 1 in a car seat. Mainly be just me but will be used for day trips to medium tracks.

My choice is 4 or 6 cyl, manual or auto. My concerns are ecomony inc cost of rego and engine issues.
Power is a factor but not a priority. For 4wding I'm a bit old school and like to be able to use compression braking.

Mods will include a small lift, tyres maybe a locker so I can crawl up stuff and depending on tyres maybe some gearing.

I would expect the 2litre to be slow as all hell.

My Mrs 2006 GV has slightly bigger tyres and is a 2L 5speed auto. It cruises awesome, is super comfortable and has enough space.

But around town it lacks a little get up and go. It also isn't a greatly fuel efficient car either. Its getting 10.5per 100kms. Which isn't bad, just for a new town car its a bit more then I was expecting.

If we had test driven it I think we would of looked at a V6 more before making a decision. And alloys.

Summing up, im slow and happy with it.

My old man has a cruiser and it had tones of room compared. If your use to having enough room it might feel a bit tight.

What's wrong with the XL7

but I'd go the V6 hands down! the 2.0L that we test drive was slower than a snail on the highway to go from 80-100 took us an eternity! personally just too much weight in the car for what the engine should be doing... this was a 2002 model! Sooo there u have it we settled with the XL7 because of size and space!!!
we get around 10.3L/100 which I'm finding out is the best you'd ever get out of an XL7 Heaps of others getting up around 12+L/100..

our old company car was a 2003 2.5L V6z there is PLENTY of power there, personally we never sat in the back because of space me and the Mrs just do not fit both COMMING in at 6foot 1, 6foot 2, just no space... HOWEVER..... we have been on road trip in our XL7 and both have had to sit in the back between the kids baby seats and fit rather nicely maybe a hand width of leg room to go so then again XL7 Bigger again... U just have to compromise and get a bigger lift hahahah

I bought my misses a 2003 2.5l v6 vitara. It's a auto and I don't really like a auto, but being a auto it's still has a lot of power with the V6. We have done a 3hr trip with five people in the car and it didn't feel cramped.

We have a newer cruiser for long trips etc that's the wife's DD, I didn't want 2 big cars so I need a DD and something for the medium tracks we do on day trips, I still have the Sierra for hardcore stuff

I don't know how you're going to fit a car seat and two other kids across the back seat?

(We've got a car seat in the middle row seat of our XL-7 and there isn't space for two other people- even young children would be squashed in..... and fighting!)

I've got two booster seats plus a 7yr old in the back seat of my Vit. Yes, it's squashed but it still works for short trips

Children keep growing, so why buy something that's barely adequate now? Bottom line is the rear seat isn't really made for 3, more 2.5 people (just look at the seat belt spacing.) * Or perhaps the middle row seat in the XL-7 is narrower than a GV?

I wouldn't be comfortable with more than 2 kids seats in the back of the Gv and getting someone even small in the middle wouldn't make for happy travels. Without booster seats 3 people in the back is fine if they are small

Well the deal have been done after some good advice via pm, 2004 GV 2.5 5 speed manual. With the car seat thrown in the middle there were some issues to begin with but after a bit it stopped, once a drop down DVD is fitted all those will fade away.
