hey guys,

I have just recently purchased a 2.5 98 GV and have noticed the Check engine light randomly coming on.
It happens when i'm on the highway usually about 100-110 kph with just enough throttle to cruise (about 1/4) after 30 seconds or so the check engine light will come on and will stay on until i either accelerate more or take my foot off the throttle.

Any ideas?

I was going to get a code reader from my mechanic but unsure if this car will store the code in a memory and i cant ALWAYS make it happen.

The chances of your mechanic having a code reader compatible with your 98 GV are not very high, however, you can insert a paperclip into a socket near the right strut mount and the ECU will flash the codes on the check engine light - see http://www.rhinopower.org/ for more details, and you can also purchase an interface from Rhinopower and download the software to get the codes using a laptop.

Chances are that one or more of your O2 sensors (if fitted - not all 98 GVs will have them) is on the way out.

I did read that website to check but didn't quite understand how to do it.... :cry:

Any chance you could give me a run down on how to do it? :youdaman:

1) Insert paperclip
2) Switch on ignition
3) Count flashes of check engine light
4) Look up flash code in chart.

Havnt had the code checked yet but had a chat to the previous owners and they said this has been happening for about 15 years....... and has never changed. odd.

Did you head butt them for not getting it fixed under warranty!? :lol:

A Suzuki dealer is probably your best option for getting the code read - if you can't work out the other method?
