the solenoid boxes have no seals, their just screwed together plastic so if you get one pull it apart, silicone it up and put in new screws that don't corrode in 5 minutes. the cables on the solenoid boxes are super short, only long enough to mount the solenoid box on top of the winch as shown in the image. it may need extension by crimping on extra cable. the 12000lb winch comes with rope, and is 10KG lighter. they are usually the same price as this when 50% off. make sure if you get a 9k Lb one the clutch leaver moved through 360" of movement, not 180 to lock, unlock. the old gearboxes used to bind and the gearbox wouldn't reengage from free spool on some fairly normal operating angles right out of the box.
the motors and gearboxes need servicing half yearly. i was doing mine yearly, but currently have it off the car because the motor wont go.
I'm on my 2nd Ridge Ryder and really want to go for a proper winch next time.

That sounds like far too much effort. Pick up a second hand warn for between $400 and $600 and service it when you think of it. New solenoid to get rid of the unsealed box can be had for $165 with terminals to wire a switch in the cab.
