Hi There,
I bought my first suzuki a few months ago after wanting one for a long time. I bought a 2007 suzuki grand vitara v6 JB
I didnt actually hear this noise until a few days after i bought it and heard a tapping noise when the engine is completely warmed up. I did a search about this noise and found a faq about the drive belts. I decided to just replace the belts as i was just about to do my 90k service. I ran the car without the belts and could still hear this little end, lifter or big end noise? A slight tapping noise and quickens slightly when the accelerator is slowly pushed. Which unfortunately means its not a tension issue with the belts as suggested. I changed the oil to the book specifications (5-30) but that just made the sound worse, so after to speaking to someone who knows oils i dropped that oil and put a 15-40 oil in it BUT that hasnt done a friggen thing! It actually sounds so much worse since doing the belts and changing the oil twice! It was also suggested it could be stuck lifters?
Has anyone had this problem in the same engine? My engine only has 90k on it.
The car dosnt seem to have any performance issues, everything runs like a dream except this awful tapping noise on idle and low revs when fully heated up. I feel theres something BIG wrong.
I have owned an R33 skyline for 12 years that i modified everything in and rebuilt the engine and turbo twice, sold it, so i bought this mummy mobile to enjoy the outdoors a bit more with the family instead of not being able to go over speed humps in the local shopping centre and going in driveways on an angle!
Please help... Feel like ive been ripped off.
Has anyone had the same issue? And how did you fix it?
Thankyou for any help, its so appreciated.
Liz

the tapping noise is probably the timing chain rattling, very common on the suzuki v6 engines. i'd look at running an engine flush through it when doing the next oil change & go back to the 5w-30 & pick up a genuine oil filter. the timing chain is hydraulically tensioned & the oil galleries can clag up not giving the chain enough tension, the other one & i'd hope suzuki had sorted it out after 10years is the timing chain guides tended to break up on the earlier version of the h series motor.

this is bleed procedure for bleeding the lifters on a h series V6... a good solid thrashing usually does the trick. eg getting the boot into it going up a decently long hill.

maybe if you can post a vid of the noise it might make it easier for us to diagnose... the timing chain rattle can clearly be heard coming from the front part of the motor.
