Hey guys

I have a short wheel base vitara with a calmini 3 " kit fitted. what's everyone else running?

What would be an acceptable answer to this question?

Of course, people run both 30's and 31's with the calmini kit. Personally, I'd run 7.50 16's or 235 85 16's, It's all a trade off of how much high range performance you're willing to give up as the diameter of the tyre increases.

It seems a shame to run a 3" kit only to run the same sized tyre a stock vitara can run though (30"), doesn't it?

I've run both, prefer the 9.5" wide 30 compared to the 10.5" wide 31... a 31x9.5r15 would be twigtastically rad.

It's such a nice sized tire. Just put a set of km2's on a disco. Imperial they measure 31.7 x 9.25 .

A possible answer might be another question back, Q: As you are in Qld, is the vehicle used on the road, and what is the maximum tyre size increase permitted?

I think a few Qld'ers have said before that Qld Tpt and Police have got fairly hard-nosed on oversized tyres on vehicles.

+1 on the 7.50R16

This was Salih's Vit (which he had briefly)
I loaned him my 7.00R16 on lj50 rims, and only lift he ended up with 1.5" coil spacers IIRC



IMO he could have run them with out the lift, if he massaged the guard more.

Most of the massaging required was on driver side rear

They were shit on road, apparently they were very load and squirmy (bias ply).

I think I will just bite the bullet and buy 31"s. Just got to figure out what brand of mud tyre I am going to roll with now.

I spent a bit of time looking for a tall skinny road legal tyre that didn't have a massively stiff sidewall and ended up settling on 245/75/16 not as skinny as a
wanted but was as close as I could find without going to a 235/85/16 which is to big for my car.

What kind of terrain do you drive? With 31's lowrange wont be very slow anymore, for sand its great but for rocks its crap and new transfer gears are needed. (They are awesome) just another cost to consider

And high range will be a bit of a pain regardless.

Carby SWB Vitaras bring the terrible with tall tyres as they already have 5.12's in the diffs - there's nothing that can be done to correct high range gearing

Depending on your budget, someone like Yukon or Richmond may make a custom R&P, but you'll want a BIG budget. Richmond made 5.83 for vitara in the past i believe...

And there's the Turkish gears that apparently (maybe?) are available here. looking at about $1500 though, and you'd still need transfer gears for offroad.

My Vitara has 31s on it now and it goes well on and off road, problem is I hve just taking the body lift out and am waiting for my new wheel bearings. I need the car for Xmas day so I need to get the tyres now before the shops all shut. I can't test the old 31s because the front end I all pulled apart.

I can get 31"summit mud hogs for 190 each fitted, it's hard deciding what brand to buy lol

My Vitara is a swb 95 with g16b and aw4. Does everything I need it to do and I could not justify spending money on gears

The auto is probably helping you out a heap... Shandy92 ran 31s and no gearing and it sucked.

I ended up buying a set of hankook 31 10.5 15 rt03 mud terains. Pretty wrapped with them, they only scrub in reverse full lock but nothing a sledge hammer won't fix haha. Got them for 209$ a peice
