Hi all,I recently bought a 2012 Jimny in Auto and while I love its small compact and easy to move around size,I feel that the lil M13A (i believe mines a VVT) could do with a bit more zip!
So,without going to the expense of another engine,surely something can be done to get this one chugging along better? Maybe bigger throttle body? Air filter
Any suggestions appreciated

Sorry folks,im new to all this so forgive me....Does anyone know of someone in or around Adelaide that can do this work for me and perhaps other enhancemants as well?
So im presuming you mean the Throttle body from an M15? I cannot really afford to do the new donk scenario but dont mind spending some to get this going better!

Also I just read about a UNICHIP! Maybe that with extractors,hi-flow cat and air filter? what you think...im unsure

no, they are talking about a motor swap.

no bigger throttle body or half assed cheap out solution is going to give you noticeable power gains.

A unichip, extractors, high flow cat, air filter and tuning will cost more than fitting an m15 motor.

Actually i rang around today and the best price i got for a M15 conversion was $2400 and when i rang the company about Unichip,extractors,hi flow cat and dyno time he said he could do it for $1890 and that i would possibly see around 60-70kw at the wheels,very similiar to the M15. But i still cannot get straight answers as to whether or not an engine upgrade is LEGAL here in SA,I know for sure that they will not allow a M18 to be put in.
Plus my car has only done around 12,000kms so far so i would prefer to keep this engine for a while,just tweak it.

Other than bullet supercharger or custom turbo
M15 is really the only solution particularly If u upsize the tyres.
I reckon you could spend 3-4k on a n/a m13 and still not come close to the m15.

adding all that custom stuff to the m13 will also more than likely make it less reliable / have a shorter life. dropping in a factory m15 is a more reliable option by far.

starting with such a new car it's a tough call on which way to go, engine swap or a built engine. but i'd be exploring all gearing options first especially if you're planning on fitting larger tyres if you haven't already.

Nothing is legal in SA. And a police officer is going to notice air filter, unichip and extractors before the m15. I seriously doubt any cop would pop the bonnet of an m15 install and not think its stock.

Also I seriously doubt you would get 70rwkws from the mods listed on an m13.

First mod to do would be extractors though as they are pretty much interchangeable. Unichip is a waste of time imo. just throw in an m18 and call it a day

A airfilter is not going to give u any power. Its a 1.3 l motor. it is not going to flow enough air that a paper filter is going to be a restriction. Any fancy filter is going to kill your motor if u use it offroad.

If you want to stay legal then you can't add exctractors to a 2012 M13A engine. There is a pre-cat in the manifold to meet the emmission standards. Also if you want to swap the engine then you need to find one manufactured in 2012 or later to be legal in most states. I think this rules out the m18A?

70 rwkw is pushing it for a atmo 1.3. As others have said. M15 and correct gearing and I dont think you'd want for power.
