Hi All, i am wondering if anyone could offer some advice:

Ive thrown a Vitara engine conversion with a Killa loom in my SJ80, and have some severe voltage drop when attempting to crank it. The wires have been spliced in off the ignition barrel and the voltages read as follows:

Battery POS (W/G)- 11.90v
Ignition POS (Y/B)-11.74v
Start Signal (B/Y) 11.86v

It seems the IGN POS wire drops to 3v when i crank the car. Although i have had the car running, timed and driven it over the last few days, ive had to run a separate wire from the battery direct to the pink IGN POS wire to give it 12v. if i dont do that, even with a jump pack, it will not fire.. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd be looking at earths first. Is there a decent earth from battery to bellhousing and to the body? Is the ECU properly earthed?

It's not the grounds, not if he can "fix" it with a direct connection to the battery - the problem will most likely be a high resistance connection on the feed to the ignition.

yeah, ive checked earth, which seem to be fine. i guess i revisit my soldering, i just wouldnt have thought there would be so much drop over a small distance, given ive soldered to the thickest power wires available.

The circuit is finding ground so going back to switch and o/l on circuit bad gnd at starter or bad solenoid , either way insulation will be melting on the harnes .

if you have low voltage at the key on all those wires but it cranks fine then its the smaller wire coming off the positive battery terminal or the fusible link if its still there has a bad connection

ill be honest, i havent checked ALL the wires when cranking royce, merely the pink one, though i did check all earths today, which seemed to be fine. swapped out to a spare computer, still the same. new dizzy, still the same but put the ol 12v wire back on just to start it and see some codes....no codes. it just started as normal, idled, ran fine..ill check the wires you suggest and see how that goes. as for melting, i havent seen or felt any wires getting hot and melting, but will keep an eye out
