My old lady has a 98 Jimny with 100k km. I have started doing the spanners on it for her and recently I noticed a strange wha wha wha noise, probably twice a second, but only once it has heated up and the idle has dropped to 750 rpm, does not do it at say 900 rpm cold or warm. I thought maybe I had set the timing belt to tight but the other day I pulled the front apart and set it a bit looser. It may have gotten quieter but its hard to tell and still their after the loosening. The bearings in the accessories and the idler all had nice bearings, i might give it a run with no alt, air con and water pump in the loop for a little test to try and isolate the noise. Its just strange though the noise seems to be comming from the valve cover but it is quite faint as my mother is so hard of hearing she cant hear it. I only noticed after I first changed the timming belt with a gates one but it was most probably there before as i dont drive the car much. Ill get a video soon possibly low oil pressure? Got me stumped.
