Well my 2009 2.4lt NGV gone done sucked the kumara on Sunday.
I was driving up a hill towing an empty trailer when I smelt coolant, looked at temp and saw it was high, not yet in the red but way too high. Pulled over and had a look, the coolant was coming out of the overflow bottle.
Couldn't see why it was hot radiator fine, too hot to open radiator cap, started engine again and temp was normal again, drove 200m to the next side road to get off the highway and it was hot again.
Had a more thorough look and found that the oil in the rocker cover is all milky with water in it, and sludgy gunk on bottom of oil cap.
Oil on dipstick fine, not milky.
Towed it from there, Its booked into the dealers on Wednesday afternoon, so I've got another one and a half days to stress about it.
So i've been thinking, its got to be at least a blown head gasket, but there's no oil or water outside the engine, apart from out of the over flow bottle.
Or a cracked head. Yikes.
I've seen some posts here and there about the 2.4's cracking blocks, but seems to be more the 2011+ models and then I would think it the sump oil would be milky not just up top.

I don't know what I'm asking here, there's not really much to go on until the head has been tested so I guess I may just be venting, but any ideas as to what may have caused this? It has done 187,000kms.

Any water in the engine manifests itself on the oil cap first before the oil becomes milky. It will be either a warped head or more likely a cracked head.

It was a cracked head! Cost $4500 to fix, then 3 months later a crack in the block appeared, I parted ways with it quickly.

We have done exactly that..... it overheated at 80200kms..... we traded it in at 80700kms....... wasn't wasting any more time or money on it......

If Suzuki Australia were to recognise the issue we might have kept it........

From what I could find out it was only a problem for vehicles manufactured 2008-2009. After then they realised there was an issue and fixed the tooling/moulds.

The TSB from Suzuki USA gives a reference to the vehicles effected ......
