Hi guys, looking into buying another Zook, previously had a 2010 GV which I loved except the ESP mode made it virtually undriveable on the beach and muddy outback roads, it would just bog down once it started losing traction and come to a complete stop, there was no point turning it off as it would just come back on above 30kmh and cut power constantly

Just wondering if anyone can pinpoint the exact model and year the ESP system was introduced as I'd like to buy another GV that doesn't have it, cheers guys :)

I don't think it's the ESP that's the problem, it's the traction control. I think all NGV's have traction control?
Can anyone confirm if pulling the fuse for the ABS fixes the problem? if so, a simple switch to defeat the ABS would fix the problem.

Steve.

Putting it into low range seemed to disable it all, problem was you can't do a decent speed then and are revving the tits off it. The Oodnadatta track in the outback in the rain was a nightmare, it was so sloppy that everything was cutting in and making the car come to a complete stop when you needed momentum to power through it, sold the car as soon as we got back after that haha, will look more into how to disable it all cheers for the reply

Esp kicks back in after 40km phr in low range.
I also found this an issue.
Downright dangerous at reasonable speed offroad.
Really does take away from sand capability and on faster grave tries to kill you.
I had heard the abs fuse trick but never tried it

Anyone know how is the speed sensed?
Is there a speed sensor which can be switched off or inhibited so it doesn't engage or register the correct speed until its desired by the user?

Speed sensor each wheel but also Gforce sensor norm around the hand brake, each wheel two wires if one sensor is diconected it will put it into Failsafe mode which disables the ABS acutator, Still get power assisted brakes but Traction control, stability and ABS is disabled. lights will come on the dash though.

When going on to sand you can try disconecting one of the front wheel's abs sensor and see what it does. There will be a white round connector attached to the wheel arch / Chassy rail in the engine bay on front and left wheel follow the wire up from the wheel through to engine bay and carefully disconect. You could put a switch keeping in mind that it will affect braking system. If have a switch or have it disconected while on road and have a accident the insurance company wont cover you or worse just saying  Its been done to a new GV and worked well eg no anoying pulsing on down hill decents and no bog downs on Sand hill climb's also worked on my car as well, once reconnected lights go out and ABS, Tracs etc etc return to normal.

Ive read about people trying to disable it they tried the fuse but i cant confirm results, on the scan tool there was a secondary voltage eg fail safe but its worth a try think its better than playing around with a sensor wire. I just stumbled across the above method when a sensor failed, read up on it in the manuals and about failsafe mode. Someone else on another forrum has also been using the sensor wire disconnect on his 2NGV for beach driving.

Of the new shape GVs, anything with the new motors (2.4 or 3.2) along with any diesel has ESP and TC. The diesel came in in 2008, the new petrol engines were available late 2008 as 2009 models.

New GVs with the old 2.0 or 2.7 motors ('06 to '08?) didn't come with ESP and most didn't get TC. I think only the Prestige V6 has TC. I think.

Awesome! Can anyone with a GV with the 2.0 or 2.7 confirm their vehicle has no traction control?

In NZ traction control didn't show up the V6's untill 2007+ the 2.4's all have it, no NZ 2.0's have it, would think the Aussie one would be similar.

However to kill all the tc, abs, etc all you need to do is to disconnect one Wheel Seed Sensor, the front left is easiest as the plug is in the engine bay attached to the chassis rail, and is Green. Unplug and hey presto, no computers telling you how to drive!
There will be all sorts of errors on the dash but these go away when you reconnect the sensor. There will be error codes still stored in the fault log, but these can be cleared by a scan tool if it matters to you.
I have done all the above with my 'late' 2.4

My 2.7L NGV is a late 07 model and it has ESP but not traction control. Another 2.7L NGV in the family was built a little earlier in 07 does not have ESP or traction control so I'd say that is the changeover year.

2006 GV 2.7 VG No esp or traction control. ABS yes. I have done more harder stuff in last 12 months than Ive ever done, and it hasnt missed a beat.

Very soft boggy sand at Bremer. Mate iin 200 cruiser struggling.
Rough slides over rocks and mud at powerlines.

Dont know. Zookforlife would probably have most educated answer

I pulled the fuse to see if it did anything and it turned the abs traction control off, but lit up the instrument cluster like a Christmas tree. Putting the fuse back in, I believe I turned it on off 3 times came back to normal if my memory serves me. Even has a little diagram under there to tell u which one to pull.

thanks for all the advice all, I'd prefer to buy one without esp or traction control at all rather than pulling the sensor, currently on the hunt for a 05 - 07 NGV, hopefully I can report back soon when I find one :) can't wait to get out into the bush again

So i really want to put in my 2 cents worth. Auto electrician by trade but haven't worked as that for 5 yrs. I still have an idea of what's going on here. I want to switch of the bloody esp and tcs as i drive a lot on the beach and on rough roads. ABS , ESP and TCS are all seperate things that work together. Wheel speed sensors are there for all these functions bit primarily for ABS. The speed sensor that tells the computer to swith back on tcs and esp at 30kmh is coming from the gearbox output shaft ie speedo as well. I have read a lot of forums with people being misguided about disconecting wheel speed sensors. This works however its a dodgey fix for the problem and This is a pain to do and corrupts ABS. At the end of the day we want to keep ABS on as its awsome almost everywhere and keep TCS and ESP switched off at any speed when off road. These functions are also excelent safety features when on road. Now i dont have the answer yet but I'm trying to figure it out. The simple truth is we need to get the transmission computer to ignore the speed sensor input from the gearbox or trick the computer into thinking its still doing less than 30 kmh and we need this conected to the factory switch on the dash so we can push or happy button and know we switch off esp and tcs for any speed but still keep abs. I have asked suzuki for help and got blank stares. I am going purchase a factory wiring diagram and see what i can do. It may help if people talk to a transmission expert and get some advice as well. I will post the professional solution when i have a rock solid fix. But in the meantime don't go messing around with cutting wires on abs sensors. This can potentialy lead to disaster down the track

I think abs offroad particularly in sand and rock is terrible on the ngv
Traction control is very worthwhile considering they have nil flex but it needs to be able to be switched for use as you would an airlocker
