I have a 98 Suzuki grand Vitara. I can start the engine no problems. the idle will jump up and down 500 rpm nearly dying each time it goes down. if I give it a rev it will rev up and then die. I can see a obd2 port drivers kick panel but have been told even though it looks the an obd2 plug it’s not within the range or some crap. has anyone else had this problem or can tell me how to check for engine codes thanks. engine h25a v6

You can check for fault codes with the check engine light by jumping two pins on the connector under the bonnet with a paperclip.

It also sounds very similar to Tonyevans problem, which turned out to be serious corrosion inside the ECU. http://auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=45614
