Found out a few months ago that the front wheels in the wife's Vitara weren't gettin drive. The front tailshaft and cv's were spinning but the wheels weren't. Pulled one of the hubs apart today and there's been water in there before, and also does look like something could be missing. I can't work out how it would lock in so pretty sure it's been pulled apart before and pieces left out. I've attached a few pics. Does anyone have any pics of their locking hubs pulled apart?

Thanks.

Is there a second spring (larger than the one on the outer part) under that gunk in the main housing? There are 2 separate ones which attach to the selector - one pulls the locking gear out and the other pushes it in when the splines match up after lock is selected.

If there is the bigger spring and it isn't broken due to rust then a full teardown and regrease should get that working regardless of how much crud is in there. If the spring was attached properly the locking gear would have come out with the selector but there is so much gunk in there it maybe it is stuck tight and the spring wasn't attached or the spring is broken.

Thanks guys. Just went and pulled it apart further and cleaned it all and it's missing the second spring from inside it as ya mentioned. It was all gunked up and locked solid but it's all moving now so can def see how it works, just need to find another spring for it lol. And the other side doesnt lock either so that too is prolly junked up and missing a spring. Might see if I can find some second hand hubs cheap otherwise looks like I'll havw to splash out on some new ones lol.

Thanks again guys! :)

I can't see anything missing? Just needs the spring to engage into the locking collar.
