I have finished installing a M16A engine from a swift sport. Same as "Rivar" in the Good Tech section, where you have to change the M13A head over because of the lack of EGR ports.

I have checked every plug, earth, and anything else that I disconnected at least 5 times and the car will not start.

It turns over, but fails to fire up. I have tried the original M13A Crank Angle Sensor and the M16A Crank Angle Sensor with the same result.

I followed the Engine conversion section in the Good Tech section and coming up with nothing?

Heaps of fuel on the return to fuel tank line, spark plugs are dry with no fuel indication.

Timing was set to the non vvvt service manual, but was confident at the time because all the timing marks lined up as the manual indicated.

Any Ideas welcome please

It could be possible u have used too much sealant on the sump meaning the crank angle sensor cant pick up the crank.
Try shaving a mm or two off the sensor so it sits deeper in the sump. This is a common issue with baleno g series swaps, im assuming m series would be much the same provided the rest of your install is up to spec

Spray some carby clean in the throttle body to rule out the fuel issue. If it starts after a big spray then your issue is fuel

I'm after conformation on this quote from 'Rivar' in the Good Tech M series engine swap, page 14

"Then the shower stopper...on all other M series engines, except the swift sport m16a, the timing gear on the crank is the same. To get the m16a to run on the m13a ecu, you need to swap this gear from the m13a crank to the m16a crank."

I assumed Rivar was talking about the timing gear on the front of the crankshaft driving the timing chain. Now I think he meant the "Crank Angle Gear" on the crankshaft that fires the "Crank Angle Sensor".

Am I the only idiot who has read this wrong and stuffed this up???

Mr Rocky thanks for the reply, I have looked at the distance from the sender to the teeth of the Crank angle gear so it doesn't seem to be affected by too much goop.

Injectors are not getting a signal to open, so no carby cleaner is getting through either.

I will be checking tonight if the crank angle gears are different between engines. If so then thats where I will be focusing my attention.

Its a good thing the shed is a great place to be, cause I'm gonna be in there for a while yet.

How are you getting from point A to point B here?

If you spray the carb cleaner into the throttle body the engine sucks it in along with the air - the injectors have nothing to do with it - if the engine fires you're getting spark but no fuel, so you look at fueling, if it doesn't fire, you're not getting a spark, so you look at ignition - get the idea now?

yep sorry you're right.

The crank angle gear is different between the two engines.

Engine is coming back out to change over the Crank Angle Gear/Plate or whatever it is called.

Just as Rivar said "Then the show stopper"
