hey all. Just bought a 2004 gv xl7 5 speed manual. And we never noticed it on the test drive but it's gotten into a habit of wanting to pop out of 1st 3rd and 5th. 1st and 5th are the worst. It is mostly on initial power on after shifting into gear.

The car came with a receipt for a new clutch about 1000kms ago.

I currently drive a 2003 gv with the h25a. And its gearbox feels much nicer then this one. And had never popped out.

Is this a common issue. Also if anyone happens to have a digital copy of the repair manual for the gearbox and doffs that would be greatly appreciated.

It is not a "common" issue - having said that, what is common to all three gears that it is jumping out of is that the three where the shift lever is "forward" - I would be checking to see if there is anything preventing the lever moving fully forward or possibly pushing the lever back as the vehicle moves.

Has the vehicle been modified in any way - perhaps a body lift?

Vehicle is standard. I pulled the interior around the gear stick and there is nothing hitting against it. Im wondering if it is the reason they put a clutch in it and then decided to sell it.

How much "slop" does the shift lever have?

I would suggest you remove the shift lever and take a look down inside the tower - if it's similar to the GVs, which I expect it to be, there is a plastic bush which can break and it's possible for a piece to have been left behind (assuming it was replaced) and that can block movement of the lever.

There are actually two plastic pieces which wear & break, the bush I mentioned earlier, which sits between the tip of the shift lever and the extension arm, and a circular seat that the shift lever sits on.



The bush is #6, the seat is #7, you'll end up destroying the boot clamp #27, but it can be replaced with a nylon cable strap.
