Hey guys bit of a weird one, I was driving to the gym the other day when I heard a grindy/humming noise so I pulled over and had a look under the car to see if I could see anything visually, all looked good so hopped back in and car would not move, fully locked up, I was only able to get it to move by revving it all the way up and dumping the clutch in which it would then "skip".

It would'nt even roll back in neutral at first, so thought it was the diff, had a friend come and see if I could get towed home and he reckons it sounds like something went wrong in the gearbox, ended up being able to push it by hand back and forth and was finally able to roll in neutral, still no drive, went through all the gears and they all seemed to engage and tried their best to move the car but to no avail.

Took off rear tailshaft and put it into 4WD and locked the hubs, still nothing, managed to tow home in neutral and it loudly hummed the whole way.

Inspected drains for both Gearbox and Transfer, Gearbox has small metal shavings in it found with magnet, Transfer just had the usual glitter.

I am going to pull the gearbox out and inspect it as this seems to be where the issue is, based on metal found.

Any ideas on what this could be and what went wrong?

What was in neutral - the gearbox or the transfer case?

If the gearbox was "locked up", it should roll freely with the transfer case in neutral.

Gearbox was in neutral, transfer was left in 4H, I can roll it freely with gearbox in neutral.
