Well, that's what happened and I have an engine lock symbol on the dash. Oil pissing out both sides of the engine.
Jason Saw me and stopped and helped diagnose the problem. Probably broken piston cap our pins. We found a hole on each side at the back. Looks Like its enter out.

Something weird going on here with missing posts.....

Anyway, I saw Bugsta's Jimny on the side of the road with a shower of oil all over the road leading right to it!
Popped the bonnet and found oil all over the lower sides of the block and the sump and radius arms and diff and road.

Much searching revealed a 7mm or so sized hole in the passengers side of block behind the extractors.
For whatever reason, number 4 conrod has let go and gone bing bong around smashing the block to bits.

Parts required:
1 X M series block.
1 X M series crank.
1 X M series piston and rod.
Possibly also oil pickup tube, stud girdle (if fitted) and various other bits.

Not bad for a motor with 23,000km on it.

Seems like a good excuse to put in a bigger engine.

Scary stuff from an engine with 23,000 kms.

I was just thinking that

I think the donk has done well considering 11,500km were on the limiter
That Jim has probably done an extra few thousand kms too ...

... on the back of a truck :goodjob:

Yeah, here is the post that is missing...

I doubt Suzuki would do anything but laugh at me when I turned up with it!

~23,000k's. Very hard K's mind you :P

No pics as yet. Only just got it home on the back of a tray.

I'm thinking it might be time to look at a m15. m16 would be my ideal choice hough. Some research to be done!

I don't think there was that much on the road. I rolled it back to the kerb pretty quickly. Wasn't pools of it. Traffic was heavy so it'd be wrapped around hundreds of car tyres by now :P

So, anyway if I am to attempt to claim warranty what will I need to do to.

I am thinking...
Replace air filter with original
Replace exhaust with original
Clean it up
Anything else?

Should this really happen to engine of this age Jason, abuse or not?

Well, I need to be reasonaly confident because it'll cost me at least $100 for a tow each way. Where I can spend $800 for an m15.

Why not ask them first and maybe take some pictures, or see if you can borrow a car trailer? A $200 gamble to take it there and back without knowing may not be the best idea.

Well, you would think not but your car isn't a typical Jimny is it?

I've seen your car on big angles a few times and I'm sure the oil light has done more than flash occaisionally.
The low oil pressure scenario time after time would certainly have done main and big end damage, wether it was the direct cause in this case or if it was something else is impossible to tell without a full inspection.
It does seem likely to me that No4 big end bearing has spun causing a lack of lube and then the big end has had 200 thou of slop instead of the usual 1-2 thou...
That much slop lets the crank hammer the rod and stretch, then snap the rod bolts. Once the rod bolts fail you have a piston and rod just waiting to get collected by the crank on the next rev and smash a ventilation port in the side of your block.

Sound familiar?

Even at a 1 in 4 chance of getting the m13 replaced, you are still better off with a m15.

IF, and thats a BIG IF! They even want to look at it, they will strip the motor to inspect, and will almost certainly find ( as Jas suggested) that there has been a lack of oil supplied to the crank on many occasions. With 23000km and the scraped and battered jungle gym hanging from your car, you won't have a leg to stand on with regards to warranty. You could argue that there was a blockage in an oil gallery, but there won't be with such low kms.

Dealers knock back GENUINE warranty claims every day, and get away with it because the customer won't fight them. In YOUR case, you (IMO) have no claim to warranty due to your usage of the vehicle been well outside the original design perameters....... and that shows!

Just bite the bullet and get a cheap M15 from a wreck and fix it yourself.

Yes, I agree with pretty much all that has been said. I am under no dilusions that it hasn't had a hard life. After realising the severity of the damage, my first thought infact was to investigate an upgrade to a m15 or m16. Just depends on what is required, computerwise to go to the m16. This would be my ideal. The little bit of reading I did a while ago indicated to me that the m18 whilst more powerful, was a weaker engine, or at the least not built stronger to cope with the extra power and failed more readily in these upgrades. Also, early indications are that the m16 is a stronger engine because it was designed for the sport. I need to do further reading to confirm or redefine my understanding. Also, that the m13 ECU will cope with the extra fuel/air requirements of the engine.

Bakerboy if you bought it to my dealership being a dick demanding warranty you would be wrecking it out because i would call Qld Transport to come take a look at it. Two can play silly games you know. Wayne all warranty was void once you entered that first event at Coopers.

Time for a Sierra or Vitara mate.

Yeah I should have never let myself get talked into doing Coopers. Whilst it was awesome fun, I didn't set the car up with that in mind. Just not designed for that.

You know, as much attention as the roll cage attracts, the cops have never even mentioned it when they pull me over. Only ever RBT, checked rego, windscreen or rear indicators. Thats it.

Or an LJ even :P

Just had a good chat to Kyser. Based on what I know and talking to him, I think my best option is a low k 1.6 from a Swift Sport. Stronger engine, and not that much bigger that I will need that many changes made to engine management. He reckons that it will run straight up, with a few external bits swapped of course, and just need perhaps some fuel pressure adjustments for best performance.

Might start making some calls tomorrow... and saving some coin.
