Hi i recently bought a 96 sj80 sierra to replace my highly modified 2002 hilux www.4x4earth.com.au/forum/my-4wd/9379-t ... ted-5.html . I`m looking at doing a engine conversion to help cope with the weight ill be carrying including a trailer, the problem is i dont want to spend a fortune or put anything in too powerful that i starts breaking stuff , plans are 2"body 2" suspension 31`s twin locked low range gears n wide track transfer case and reduction gears , calmini roof rack, custom winch bar and custom rear swing away carrier , inside im keeping pretty much factory except for a waeco / cb and a large alpine sterio / ipad navagation . So whats the best option i was thinking 13b twincam gti with a sc14 toyota supercharger or a jimny twincam with charger Any suggetions welcome remember funds are tight due to other mods and mini caper trailer im building

These two statements are the most contradictary things I've read in years. So to answer your question.....Standard G13b or standard G16b.

Good luck with a front locker also, high pinion and there is nothing made to 'fit' the sj80 front

so to clarify.
You sold a 10yo well modified 4wd that could tow a trailer for one 50% older that cant, and you want to build your new / old 4wd to be able to tow what your old one could - but you dont want to spend too much money doing it? Is that correct?

sj80tourer wrote: has anyone tryed mahining a sierra lokka to fit I'll leave the grammar alone. I have done the machining required for a front locker, but to do it again I would charge a lot, and because of Atari the extra cardboard costs are also pretty high. I think you need to do some more research. You have purchased, I think, the wrong model Sierra (or zook in general) to start with. Your budget is also low. Carrying extra weight in a Sierra is one thing, adding a trailer is another. Keep forced induction out of the equation if you want a reliable vehicle.

Mine was built as a toy basically a rego`d comp truck not anything that could be driven any long distance it was heavy on juice, hard for my missus to drive and was way to high to tow a trailer without a ridiculas hitch, i also recently lost my job so most of the toys had to go , so with the left over cash i bought the sj from my brother cheap 1000 bux . Ive seen suzukis in the states towing campers thru the moab , anything can be done

If you can do all that for 3 thousand ill be amazed! Saying that I wish you the best of luck. Edit: sorry I just saw you plan on spending 10k. My suggestion, sell your SJ buy a pov pack Jimny and mod that. IMO I just did a g16b conversion into my Jimny, it has heaps of power and wasn't very expensive to do. Remember turbo or super chargers will cause mass fuel consumption, and zooks have small tanks. Unless you use a long range, but that's more money. Twin lockers will cost, not too sure about your model though. Good luck

What sort of touring do you expect to do with this setup? Is it purely "touring" towing a camper trailer? Play toy? Daily? I've done a Baleno G16B conversion that I am very happy with. All up, cost about 2K. You are welcome to contact me if you would like to have a look. BTW: I know of ONE forced induction Sierra in the state. That's Brenno's old one. If anyone knows anything about supercharged Zooks - he's your man

sj80tourer wrote: there is alot of smart arses on here yeah yes, there is. But you asked what 'the best' conversion would be, that 'doesn't break stuff', and for the sake of budget, reliability, and drivability, the G16B is hands down the best option. You could always throw boost at it later should you feel the need, but to be honest, a properly geared sierra with a G16B is great for just about everything.

That red hardtop is my old supercharged jinny motor. It was pretty slap together and if done again I would just go g16b. There's nothing wrong with it as superduki off here drove the fucker to qld and back.
