the one i seen is in tassie and he wants $350 for the complete setup. apparently it bolts straight to the 4A block i have.

There is a guy on OL doing this conversion with the jatco auto right now, he would be a good person to contact. Also Yes I think they are 3spd with o/d that is if they are the same jatco as behind the VL's

hey buddy.. how ya goin with it all?? Mines all pulled apart.. i've nearly got the rear lux diff (with air locker ) ready to go under.. just WAITING on parts from Low range off road to get here so i can finish that, and start on the front!! I've also taken the cab lift out, adjusted the rear bar to suit, few other bits and pieces

i have my new motor and gearbox resting in the engine bay, i have to get rid of all my spare parts and then i will have room to get in and make engine mounts etc. just trying to find time is a killer.

but definately making progress, similar to the amount of rum you have drunken by the looks of it.

id kill for a shed like that but i have 3/4 of a single garage to try and move around in. not all that easy.

well time for an update....


what i have learned so far.... proper planning and selection of parts makes for a much easier job.

you can now all say as you thought... i told you so (royce inparticular)

i have now purchased my fourth engine for this conversion. those being:

swift gti scrapped that idea after realising it was a stupid buy and that i wanted a 4age

bought the whole corolla came with a running 4afe.... same as gti.... dizzy points to the firewall (insert royce's i told you so here)

bought 4aGe with rebuilt head but shitty block..... $100 laughing.

bought another 4age complete yesterday instead of just buying a block and then having to buy a whole gasket kit etc. whole 4age + ecu etc no loom $250.


so.... now i have the right motor, which is what i should have done way back in the start, i can fit the bastard.

anyone from penrith is welcome to come out and have a yarn on the weekend and drink some of my beer in exchange for some sort of help (laughing at me swearing at the shitbox can be classed as help as it boosts moral) while im fitting the motor.

now everybody together...... I TOLD YOU SO!!!

i was gunna cut a hole, but how much of a pain in the arse would it be when im out in the middle of the bush to try and fix a waterlogged dizzy when its jammed through the fire wall.....

well then, here we go....

now need to do a body lift for the auto box sump to be able to fit up high enough to line up with the transfer case.

going to do some research now on what needs to eb done to lift it.

i plan to just unbolt the body for now and then lift it up and rest it on 45mm timber blocks. then try and fit the motor back into a more desirable place.

hopefully i wont have to lift too high and bugger up my C.O.G.

i know of a lnk on outers for doing the body lift but has anyone found one else where?

some progress this morning. i lifted the body and sat it on some 45mm timber blocks (for now). this was just to see how much clearance would be needed for the gearbox.

sat the motor in place and looks pretty good. plenty of room around it. just have to make some engine mounts and we're in business.


the outers bible thread for the body lift was quite helpful.... pointed out the traps for noobs when it comes to lifting.


now i need to speak with joe about his auto box shortening plate.....

im putting a 3sp auto box mated to a 4age. the auto is a little long and apparently joe makes a kit that shortens the gearbox at the rear to allow for more room and a slightly longer jackshaft.

engine mounts 80% finished. i just have to do a couple of adjustments to get the engine and gearbox straight.

its sitting on the 2 mounts and the gearbox is resting on the crossmember.

well here they are... some are a little shyzar but you get that. ill take better ones when the mounts are finished.

as you can see i haev only tacked everything in for now.

and for good reason. i need to move the drivers side mount plate, the one on the chassis forward approx 5mm. this will take the twist out of the mount that you can see.

at the moment with the engine sump in its fwd position, it hits on the diff pumpkin. this is not a concern at the moment seeing that i will be using hilux diffs, they have an offset pumpkin and the diffs are sprung over, creating more clearance. i will more than likely do a sump reversal anyhow to allow for more clearance, i can also do a shackle extension if needed. id prefer not to ext shackles to keep down the COG.
