Our 10/99 build SQ625 manual has a steel front diff.
Re towing, we have a camper type trailer at 1100kg which we towed 35,000km around Aust. Now at 190,000km still on the original clutch!.
I know they were advertised with a 1850kg towing capacity, but I wouldn't like to do it.

I have an auto 2.5, i tow a jayco finch (about 1100kg). no problems(fuel averages 17l on the highway with it). it's an auto and uses heaps of fuel. had no major dramas with mine bing a 02. 167,000km's, i run 235/70/16 A/T's. has a 2in/3in lift plus all the usual add ons.
go buy one, it's great, bit squishy in the back though with 3 young kids. i have a roof basket and tow a 7x4 trailer or camper to get around the space problem.
