Steam isnt smoke is it :)

go dribble some water down your carby with some revs up and watch what comes out and then do it with some engine oil, it wont be blue, it will be far from blue

I was refering to what colour the smoke would be if the rings where not seating to the walls nicely. Which would be bluish black smoke, black for fuel, blue/ black for oil. not just a dribble down the carby which is split into 4 combustion chambers evenly, and mixed with fuel and air. With no problems with the rings.

lol also pouring small amounts different times cannot compensate for what actually going on inside the engine when oil and water might be leaking in ....

only way for him to tell

check you oil does it s smell like fuel????? or is it milky white?? problem solved to finding the right path lol

Zuk85.
So people post up and then you go on this I know crap because I have just finished a "cert II in auto mechanics." Then you get all cranky and have a hissy over replies because it's not the answers you want to hear.

Either take onboard what people say and they might be right.

Well fuck didnt I just get my ass served to me by mr cert II

how about you take your certificate, roll up real tight and stick it where the sun wont see it anymore and see what it does or your attitude

90% of people seeing burning oil call it white, like 90% of people see fuel smoke reckon its blue, but everyone has dealt with steam before so has a clue what thats like

i get it now lol

so i take it you are all fully qualified mechanics cert III?

im not qualified and im not sayng im qualitfied hence my CERT II comments asswpies. I didnt wanna just be like yea i have worked on cars my whole life just replacing parts and taking it to the shop to get another bloke to do it like u may think. otherwise like you are all doing now u just write everyone off.

im just trying to give some viable info on what some of the causes could be.

i have just finish cert II in auto mechanics. so i am fresh and have be taught by teachers who are constantly ungrading with vehicle changes.

it aint burning... its turning it to steam because the explosion in the cylinder is so hot and the already hot water, mixes and creates steam...

Here is something they probably don't teach in cert II spare parts fitting these days.

It is accepted industry practice to hone a cylinder whenever fitting new rings. It is also good practice to measure bores after honing to see if they are within factory spec still. If not it is off to the local friendly machinist to have the block bored and honed and oversized pistons fitted.

Apart from whatever mechanical condition your engine may be in, and the extent of your mechanical skills in the work you have just done, white smoke indicates water getting into the combustion chamber (white smoke - steam). Have the cooling system analysed and check for bubbles in the water and pressure drop. Also a compression check might tell an interesting story.

fuck your a wanker. pull your head out off your arse so u can see what your typing.

steam out of your kettle is completly fucking different to what would come out of your motor. i didnt realise your kettle had fuel and shit mixing with hundreds of psi in it.

oil will burn white for a bit but when lots is mixed with fuel!!!! in the combustion process it becomes black/blue.
have u not driven a car with blown rings?????? what hapens when u back off then floor it?????? it blows a fucking big cloud of black/blue smoke!!!! thats fucks u up if your behind them.

exactly true mate and they did teach us that as with the mechanic i did my experience with for 6 months!!! but im referring to the problem at hand not what should have been done in the rebuild process. i did say in my post before but no one prolly read that the cylinder wall may be GLAZED which would contribute to a white smoke.

stop trying to take shot at me everyone i was just trying to help lol this is why net forums sucks because everyone including my self interprets everyone writing the wrong way

lol ive driven and fixed every kind of special fucked up piece of shit there is, and ive listened to every kind of special car owner's idea of whats going on, people cant call oil smoke blue

now shit the fuck up, accept you just did a course thats taught you fuck all (I did it while still at school, feel special now princess) and stop pushing the same line cause that's what a teacher told you, we know the problem, the rings aren't bedded in, they cant and wont ever bed in and given the way the bores on these engines wear I doubt they ever will with any amount of honing

WOW......that got outta hand!! haha.

thanks everyone for helping even if you have different opinions.

Sorry to take sides, but i think it is smoke, not steam. Smoke cos it hangs around for ages as i drive down the road!!

However, it is white. Very white with a slight blue tinge i guess. In my limited experience, i would say it is mostly oil.

The head gasket went on the right way up - there was only one way it would fit.

At the end of the day, the evidence fits the crime - "industry standard" of honing any bore a new piston and rings goes to tells the story. I fucked up. - new rings, gaskets, pistons etc but no honing.

Although...just to keep the debate going longer...the smoke has no hint of black or any darkness as suggested it would if oil was blowing past the rings.........

If i cruise down a hill in gear but no accelerator then floor it, it blows huge amounts of smoke. But it is definately WHITE (or basically white)
