Does sound too cheap - when they say rego taken care of, does that include engineering approval?

At least it sounds like they're thinking about it if they're talking brake upgrades for the V6.

Okay guys here we go.

Friend of a friend , the one with mates rates advised that he would not touch the 4AGZE , SR20DE & DET, or the M18A.
Like Fatzook said the M18A would be a hassle to put in, and that was his reason, not to mention the cost of the motor, I would not have enough money to do that conversion.
I was talking to someone about Toyoga 4AGZE & Nissan SR20DE & DET, but they suggested sticking with Suzuki. 4 options entioned, in order of his preference. I think his preference was based on how good he thought the engines were.

1) Suzuki Grand Vitara V6 2.5Liter - H25A - Including front and rear breaks, stronger tail shaft $6000 (would not be engineered but should be, too costly thou)

2) Suzuki Baleno GTX 1.8Liter - J18A/G18A - motor way too expensive, transmission would be an issue, making it work would add extra $500-$600. $4000 (no engineering required)

3) Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0Liter - J20A- Power 94kW -engine hard to find, and costs way too much, otherwise easy fit. To get the Air-conditioning working would mean etra $500-$600 Conversion total $4000


The other guy, not private, part of some sort of racing team for Suzuki 4x4, in NSW, told me he could do the conversion for the SR20DET, and would be awesome however the cost of engineering would be about $2000. The engine conversion an additional $5000-$6000 and again the air conditioning would add $500-$600.

The 1.8 & 2.0 conversion would not make sense to him, as the cost saving over a Suzuki Grand Vitara V6 2.5Liter - H25A would be about $1500. The V6 2.5 would come to $5500 but apparently I could avoid engineering as the V6 2.0 looks the same as V6 2.5 and on visual inspection I would not be defected since overseas this model was also fitted with the V6 2.0.

So..........What the hell is it with the air-conditioning making costs of labour an extra $500-$600 more?

Anyhow, I was only budgeting $3000 for the conversion for the engine and auto gear box, which means I will have to wait and save till I can go the V6 2.5

Not happy, really wanted the extra grunt within in the next few weeks.
Will also look into the Nissan 2.0 turbo diesel as a last option. Would be great for the odd water crossing that I may do once a year.

Who are these people? ARe they reputable shops? Or backyarders with an ABN?

I'm pretty sure that ALL motor conversions in NSW where the motor was not OEM fitted to that model require engineering.

We fitted the 2.0L V6 J20A to our Vitara a few years ago. The engine peformed fault less the whole time the motor was in the Suzuki. It gives a nice amount of power and a nice sound. Don't know much about the rest, so thats the motor I would go for if we did it again.

personally i find the g16b a great engine
enough to power a vit at highway speeds even with the a/c on and runnin 30s

I doubt your vitara would qualify as a commercial vehicle. Having said this, the disclaimer about the above rules not applying would also be irrelevant. But I am not up to speed on the NSW laws and regs regarding engine conversions, so it may be possible with supporting modifications.

Not my experience on 31s, especially with the aircon running.

It's a good little unit for what it is, but it's always going to be a 1.6.

im just gunna go with a black top 20 valve 4age is the best option u can run a corona auto behind them ive heard or a corolla auto? there are mad cam upgrades for them and also they have quad throttles perfect for response but if u do go an sr20 get one from a gtir as it will have the quad throttles also and a better turbo standard.

There is some awesome 4age 20valves on eBay at the momment. If I could that would be my pic. My brother inlaw just did the h25a and it's not that fun. But do'able

There is also an awesome 13b turbo series 4 engine on eBay with harness under $2000. Looks clean and good. That would make mad Vitara. Rev to 7000, and make reasonable torque. And would sound sweet!!!

I have put h25a into my sj80 .it also is running an auto 4 speed out of the vitara on the sierra transfer. Its goooood.
