Looks like a spacer to me.. but it was all done at an ARB in NT before i bought the car, ill have to go digging for the receipt but i'm pretty sure its all above board.

After i bought the car i ran the same setup for ages with the existing OME kit on it with no problems (they would of been on for more then a couple of years) - until one of my shocks blew out all its oil so thats why i bought 2 new front ones.
the new shocks i got look exactly the same and have the same part number and according to ARB "there is only 1 type for my car" so i don't see why there is a problem.
ARB replaced them under "Good will" and they said there will be no warranty due to the fact i installed it myself and they were saying "something is bent" and blaming my body lift for not supporting my strut towers...
So i doubt i can get ARB to touch it let alone give me 2 new shocks again!

Short version of this story, sold near brand new suspension kit for $450. Had ARB fit their OME sports suspension kit for 1700.

to be fair Robert Starey is a pretty special grade of fuckwit (Hi Rob dont chuck a tantrum, you fucking started it with your whinge about me and here on that forum)

I am starting to think the prob here is new lift plus new steering stuff means the toe is out and its making the front jack up like they do and causing dramas, hence he request for the bigger picture

The first new pair of shocks that broke i didn't have the new steering bits in for though.. but the front end does sit a lot higher then when i had the original OME in but there shouldn't be weight on the shocks so putting new ones in it shouldn't lift any higher then before right?
also it was wheel aligned and camber bolted with this last pair so it should've all been fine..

Hi guys,

Advice needed please and update!

I decided to take out those spring spacers in the front. it dropped a lot of height and now the front looks a fair bit lower then the back (kinda gay).

I'm not sure what to try next without breaking the bank. (& i'm worried even after all this money/work they will just break again - since some people say the strut towers can bend.)

Do i try another Set of OME struts? i've been reading and people both do and don't recommend using dobinsons front struts? are there any other options?
what about the trailmaster struts from bits4vits or jimnybits?

Also i'm looking at getting a pair of diff drop brackets(1"?) & strut spacers(1.5" or 2.25"?) - will my standard alloy diff be ok with them on? i've read it puts more stress on the rear diff mount and cant cause it to break easier. what size strut spacer should i look at and where should i buy them? are the strut spacers that screw on the end better or do i get the ones which bolt above my strut mount?

Also i'm located in Perth if anyone has any 2nd hand bits as above for me >:)

edit: also since taking out the spring spacers my centre drag link is now hitting the diff WORSE T.T :(

Mines a 94 LWB with 30mm spacers kings springs and OME struts .
Ome struts only lasted 24 000kms . They won't replace them but offered new ones for half price . So I accepted as they were 4 months out of warrenty and mainly used off road .

Any way a few pics attached .
Have you looked at the other steering bracket pictured . If that's bent it may cause clearence issues and make steering harder . I don't think it will it would affect your struts failing but interesting they don't seem to last as they should.
Sorry guys but if they didn't offer me the reduced price iI was going to try Iron man .

While your taking your springs out just take some measurements .
With the spring out but the strut in , jack up your control arm and you'll be supprised that with the OME struts they will be fully compressed when there is little compression of the bump stop . Then try it with the strut flipped or a spacer . This will let you know if your struts will bottom out or not . I'm sure the springs will bind up first .

Also my left strut I'm sure was faulty from new as well but can't prove anything .
I notice you still have your sway bar attached . Surely this will limit your down travel so it could be a waste of time putting stut spaces in anyway.

Thats a OME "Coil Packer" - They don't call it a "spacer" since spacers are illegal in NSW. Perhaps you told them that you were carrying a load so they've specified a 10mm spacer to correct the ride height. I got a pair in my Jimny kit that I haven't fitted yet.

Please, try a differnet set of front struts, can't be that expensive for a pair of front struts. I want to know if the OME are fooked up or if its just your car. Get the cheapest shit you can, they might bend again.

Thanks for the pics and advice. You have a lot of space between them and your front diff. Also your Drag Link is slightly bent on the ends like my old one was. i will have a look at that bracket later tonight when i get home. But i think my problem is dodgy ebay parts since my drag link is straight with no bends at all..

Front vitara struts are pretty expensive. I can get cheaper ones from the net but everywhere else is about 300-400 for the front pair.
I also called ARB they said they dont put coil spacers in. (mine are a 2cm purple colour spacer)

Also zuk94 - so u think maybe that my struts are bottoming out(compressing too much?) the guy at pedders told me that my lift was too high and they were extending too far.
Maybe if i get time on the weekend i will pull it all apart and take some measurements.

Thanks guys for all the help.

lee88 and others who may be having this problem with the piston in the struts. Contact myself or Melbourne head office with these issues, don't rely on middle of nowhere stockists. If you have had this piston issue, and been charged for replacement please let us know from who and any purchase documentation you may have.

Thanks Joe I'll get some things together and give you a pm.

lee88 No I was just putting your mind at rest in relation to them bottoming out . Ithink the springs will bind up first before this happens . As for topping out , well I think this would be most likely and I'm not sure what to do about that other than change driving style.
Anyway keep us posted and good luck..
