I think its achievable on the 1.3 also...... at the expense of reliability. The smaller suzuki motors ( with the exception of the G13B GTI) are sort of fragile.

The 3RZ however is a fairly strong motor, so it may have handled the abuse of a slap up charger kit ok.

Just like the 1UZ's are well known for their strength, you can get massive gains from them without cracking the motor open, assuming quality parts, setup and tune are utilized.

Seems its not worth the hassle hey. I suppose my engines only got 39000ks on it so I don't want to blow it :-(

If you want more grunt out of your Jimny, it would be cheaper, easier, quicker and more reliable to swap in an M15... Why you would want to go forced induction when you have a perfect motor swap available is beyond me...

The forced induction approach can be made reliable, however it will cost you. I'm sure no one on here questions that, also the power made by forced induction won't be matched by a slightly larger motor...

But!

You will need a healthy budget.

I do agree with ben Sierra with the idea of the m15.
If you are on a shoestring budget... Like most of us

An M15 won't give the 30-40% mentioned on the last page, sure, more like 20%, which is still huge, although I question whether you could squeeze 40% more out of an M13.

If that still isn't enough, then the M18 is close to 50% more powerful.

Both will be more reliable than any boosted M13. And cheaper. And easier.

Your right ben. But it depends on the budget as to the reliability of the turbo build.

Yeah these are all options. Glad I asked though as I wouldn't have known all this otherwise.

Sounds like a lot of work and money
I'd just drop a 2.5 or 2.7 in it

I am in the same boat with my 1.6 vit motor, what are you going to do about the stock internals? Im not sure if it will handle boost for long.

Don't know any one know what a gv motor weighs
V6 gv coils give a vit about 3 in lift so that some indication

Not sure what they weigh, but coil height is only a very small part of the picture when it comes to engine weights and conversions. How about the raised COG, unsettled weight distribution, and its effect on handling etc....

Not to mention you'd have a snowballs chance in hell of getting it approved given that those motors are double the size of the OEM motor.......

Yes I appreciate that and here's what I've come up with

One of two options

1 the vit sohc has a relatively low compression ratio. Which makes it "more readily" to take a turbo. One thing that would definitely need to be looked at and not Overlooked is the head gasket.

The oem gasket won't take the added pressure for long. So you would need to get a custom metal head gasket made up. They don't make an off the shelf item. Last time I priced one I was looking at about 300 bucks to make one up.

As for hardware pistons, bearings etc...

I can't see a whole lot of problems running low boost so long as your motor isn't too tired. And has decent compression. As we are all well aware, The Motor is only as strong as the Tune that you give it.

Of course if you take it to Shonky Brothers Dyno Tuning they may get your car running with the added boost, but might not take into account that we actually drive cars on the road... not on Rollers.

I Am of the opinion that Running 6-8 PSI. The Stock internals of the motor will hold up. So long as you Include some mechanical sympathy like Rev Limiters and what not. Running 6-8PSI with the turbo i will be using TD04 should give me full boost around 2500RPM. Therefore my rev limiter will be set around 5750 RPM.

You can definitely go down the road of Building a Stronger motor, ie: Pistons, Rod's, cranks, getting it all balanced and put together and what not, but as with everything its expensive.

I have seen mention of people using Cranks and rods out of VTEC 1.6L's but I really haven't looked into it... sounds like an expensive route.

Option two - twin cam head from a gti.

This option is considered better for turbo applications as by fitting this head it also lowers the compression ratio which again makes for easier turbo applications.

But there's alot of custom work involved with this...

So whichever way you choose to do it or if you do it another way. There is more work in planning and preparation. Don't forget the healthy budget.
And your thriftyness spend yOur budget wisely... You don't need to spend 2 grand on a Garrett turbo. Spend it on a better ecu ( just like you don't need the latest haltech if the cheaper and reliable adaptronic will do the job)

... Did I mention it has a launch control function ;-)

(just edited it on the PC rather than the crappy iPhone)
