Why all these wild mods? What are you planning to drive with this thing and exactly what are you stepping out of (hilux mods?) Have you seen even a twin locked and geared sierra on 31's in action before? Their capability with minimal mods will surprise you.

Buy a leafy and run any tyres you like up to about 36" on zook diffs with chromo's, have a proven flexible setup easily, embarrass all your mates with big trucks and 35's but put up with the more rugged looks and slightly worse NVH levels. Has anyone asked the Mitch what his budget or fab capabilities are? You are all treating him like a useless turd. Perhaps his lack of knowledge about sierras is in fact just that, and not a lack of experience/ know-how/ skill in general He may infact be capable of carrying out the mods needed to fit 33's to a coiler..... who knows? And for those of you who are suggesting that a coily on 33's will ride the same or worse than a leafy of the same stature, what are you basing this on? Very few people commenting in this thread are qualified to do so.

Well most of the fab work I will being doing my self I can make my bars and sliders and a roll cage. Where as for suspension I've never chopped and changed anything but Im Sure id be able to figure it out I've never actually had a good look underneath a coily Sierra properly looking at everything

Anyway based on me riding/driving in a Sierra with SPOA and leaf springs that had 33" MTR's AND riding in a Coiley Sierra with 33" MTR's body lift and suspension lift. Neither really ride that well, if I had the choice it would still be the leafy because it could flex without tyre scrubbing.

My comments were directed at those who have an opinion based on neither ownership, nor time spent modifying a coily. As for your comments on an SPOA sierra vs a lifted coily...... Your comments regarding scrubbing are ridiculous. How does coil suspension vs leaf suspension have anything to do with tyre scrub? Wheel offset, bump stop spacing, axle position, spring rates all have an effect on a vehicles ability to scrub. So you sampled 2 vehicles, setup by different people, in different ways, probably with differnt levels of completeion, and based your opinion on that?

The leafy is definately the path more troden, and for this reason I'd suggest getting a leafy. You should be able to pick up a good condition WT sierra (89-95) for under $3k if you shop around and be patient.

I could go into all the other details if you wanted me to? I just picked the basics as a rough idea for comparison, but hardly ridiculous.

What SierraDan said and also look for a good supplier of wheel bearings. True, but it is possible as proven by the Vic suzi club, albeit full floater rears and such. More realistically 33-34" tyres like I run without problem on stock rear axles. With a coily you won't last one trip running those size tyres.

All of that can be had for very little outlay if budget is an issue. If you want more then just have a good read at some threads on here and other peoples build ups and get an idea on what works on zooks and with your skills and the knowledge learnt you could build a very capable rig I think. I started out not knowing anything to do with 4wd's and now run a twin locked, flexy sierra on 34's all from stuff I learnt on forums and some trial and a few errors, there is a wealth of knowledge on here.

I ran 31in tsls, gti, reduction gears and a rear locker, drove the wheels of it and never broke a single drive train component. (i broke a diff but given the situation anything would have busted) Fuck some people talk out of there ass. a reverse cut (high pinion) front center is stronger than a rear sierra. the only down side is cvs and rear radius ARM mounts. imo mate buy what u want. I have owned 5 sierras now they are awsome. imho the sj80 is a Diffrent truck that requires Diffrent mods. however are a sweet little truck when sorted. all the bullshit people say about "getting the suspension to work" etc, I never had a issue, it wasn't perfect but I never felt that I needed to re-do it. all that being said if u want to go twin locks and 33s and want to drive it hard, get a wt leafy just for easy moss etc, If u like a bit more of a challange and a better looking car, get a sj80

why? Seconded. How is it that SJ80 rear axles are weaker than your standard rear axles? Every time I click on this thread I can feel my IQ dropping.
