The 751's go great in the sand / bush and on the road as well.. I paid $680 fitted and balanced + a wheel allignment for mine in 235's. Only issue I have with them is wet tarmac.. They tend to slide around quite a bit.. But then again they are the only tyres i've ever had on the zook so it may just be because its a super light car nice and quiet though and in the dry they are awesome

Drove in the wet last night. The 751 are heaps better than the BFGs.

yeah most places were around that price. I found a dunlop dealer that had them for $170, then I asked another dealer, they said $175...when I said dunlop had them for $170, they did them for $165.

Month or so on, been in plenty of rain and the Maxxis are heeeeaps better than the BFGs were. I'll report back in a few years with the KMs and results.

I found this old thread of mine when I was searching for new tyres. I sold my Vitara in 2013 and the 751s were great. Sand, wet clay, rocks, were just as good as BFGs on everything I did, except they were terrible on wet grass. Like, when I washed the car in my yard (hilly) I needed 4x4 to get out - never needed that with BFGs.

They were better than BFGs on the road by a long shot in the dry and was chalk and cheese in the wet. I didn't slide once with the Maxxis, but slid every (tight) corner with BFGs.

I've now got another 4by, a Prado (sorry guys!) and was googling to see what the 751s were like on the heavier vehicles, cause I am thinking of getting them again.

Another vote for the fairly ordinary wet tarmac performance for BFG A/T KO - maybe the KO2 are better?
Ran them in 225/70R16 & then a set in 225/75R16 on my 1999 Grand Vitara V6.
When the 225/75s were due for replacement, I bought some second hand Cooper Discover S/T Maxx in the same 225/75R16 size - these were already well worn by the previous owner, who was getting out of them a little early as he had a trip coming up & wanted a fresh set.
I did another 15,000km with no issues & all the way through, I had more grip than with the BFGs.
Having said that, I'm now running BFG M/T KM2 in 245/75R16 and they have been amazing.

I’m a big fan of the Bridgestone Dueler AT 697. Unreal road manners and no complaints off-road.

^I had D697s on my Jimny and they were fantastic, totally transformed the car. Pricey though and loved to pick up gravel stones. They did about 60'000kms and still had around half tread when it was sold. Never got a puncture but they had a pretty easy life. You certainly get what you pay for with these I reckon, absolute night and day difference in handling from the Khumo H/Ts that were on it and like 6 times the life.

We've had a few sets of 751s at work on the farm and they've all chipped and worn much more than you'd expect on the gravel roads.

700 seems to be the same compound and chips much the same. I've had these on my 4runner and landcruiser and they're borderline deadly on gravel, they suddenly "let go" and you end up sideways in a hurry. My girlfriend wont drive my 4runner now, was fine when it had MTZs.

We've had quite a few punctures on the 751s and 700s. I think you'd really class these tyres as more robust and aggressive H/Ts. They're aren't really a proper all terrain tyre in my eyes. Still, for a primarily road driven car that sometimes goes to the beach or family camping trips I think they're good.

980 seems much better for chipping but they wear quick. Nice proper tread pattern on them but it does clog up. The compound seems particularly soft, sleeper rock tyre?

On the subject of cheaper tyres, I've been really pleased with the Khumo KL71s on my Sierra in a 215/75R15. Silent on the road and drive really well, wet or dry. Great traction offroad and super tough. I've pushed a couple of extremely overgrown tracks through burnt scrub land and haven't gotten a single puncture. Their only downside is they kinda suck on sand. They feel like I've got 15psi in the tyres when I've got 5.

I second KL71 as a tyre choice. I've run Cooper STT, Simex Centipede, KM2, General Grabber and KL71... and KL71 are the only one I've bought twice! Sideways is right about them on sand too, they just dig, dig and dig some more. But then that is sort of what a muddy is designed to do =) Mine in 31x10.5 happily run 26psi front and 22psi rear on the road, and down to 8psi offroad. I mentioned in a few threads now, the weight of the KL71 is also impressively light by comparison to some others, like, 8kg per tyre lighter than a General Grabber.
