well i found a 1L switch case. im going to do a rock lobster swap over into a 1.3 case. might take a couple of months before i get to it, but it will be done!

Why would you even bother? You can buy the 4.16 gearset for under $400 these days!! Will be far better balanced than doing a Rocklobster and will outlive it by MANY thousands of Km.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a 95 sierra with a GTI twincam and 30" muds and it JUST sticks to 110 on the freeway. Next tyres will be 31"
Question is if I put reduction gears in to make 4wdriving easier will my highway speeds decrease?

I have a GTI Sierra with 235/75/15 tyres and the gearing is crapper then the crappiest geared Sierra ever. My other Sierra has 33s and 6.5s and it is a dream to drive.

I dunno how people wheel on stock gearing.

IMO stock Sierra gearing isn't even low enough for 26s if you want to do technical stuff, if you don't do technical stuff 30s and a 1l case would work well.

i just test run mine with 3.9 diffs, 6.5 transfer and 30" tyres
to me that felt good for what i like to do..

but once i start daily driving it i might swap to my 4.9 transfer as it will get the high range about right

6.5 and 3.9's would be sweeet.
5.14 and 3.9 was pretty spot on for daily on road and hard off road. But 6.5's would have been the bomb offroad.
