What people forget when adding exhausts is the need to 'balance' the sides of the crossflow engine.

The basic principle of an internal combustion engine is...

SUCK, SQUEEZE, BANG, BLOW

In order to really get the increases we all crave we need to work on ALL 4 of the above

The cheapest and easiest ones that most people work on are the SUCK and BLOW, but in order to really get the benefit, you have to do both, absolutely no point in having a nice fat exhaust to pull all the gasses out the engine, if you dont have the free-flowing induction of air (and thus fuel) on the other side of the engine to actually put the fat lot of air in.

The SQUEEZE and BANG are taken care of by forged rods and pistons, lightening of internal components, increasing VVT efficiency, better quality plugs, leads and coils etc

Its a shame that people spend money on exhaust, expecting big gains but do themselves no favours by not increasing the intake side in parallel. Its all well and good having an exhaust that can pull 1000 litres of exhaust gas out a minute, but if the induction system is only capable of feeding 500 litres of air in a minute, then you wont see Jack Schitt. In the same way if you induction is capable of feeding 1000 litres of air but your exhaust can only pull 500 litres of exhaust gas.... again Jack Schitt

I agree with Zukenutter. From all the research and discussions I have had I have seen no hard evidence that a modified exhaust on a VVT Jimny does anything other than make it sound better. Mine is stock. One day I might change the mufler to give it a better sound but that is about all.

You didn't look hard enough... Redback make them for both non & vvt

Also there is a shop on eBay that makes them too.

Not only that, a good exhaust shop can make a custom set.

now, how bout my case..... (all this theoretical as I still dnt have enough spare cash ..... ... )

on my last service/check, my mechanic told me that I should replace the muffler soon, as its stuffed, and also once few years back my cat converter collapsed making it almost imposible to drive as it was backfiring most of the gases... I barely made it to a local servo/mechanic, but although they fix it,I never got sure its working 100% perfect

so I was considering to make an upgrade to it to the 2", as if Im gonna change the main components fo it, better "do it good, do it once" kinda thing

If you need to replace your exhaust system anyway then you might think about upgrading it however, you should not expect any great performance improvement. IMO the stock Jimny manifold looks pretty good (on my 2009 model anyway) so I might stop at replacing that. Keep the manifold and upgrade the rest. If you look carefully at those power and torque curves shown in the previous posts the before and after ones are plotted on different scales so when they are normalised that guy lost both power and torque when he fitted the extractors. I would not bother spending money for that outcome.

Bert chuck a new muffler in, you'll probably find you have more power even with a stock replacement. When your Cat collapsed it would have collected in and restricted your muffler.

genine / redback make a set to suit the M13A motor from 05 on. . . . . . unless thier not the right one's in my car

their wildcat extractors. I bought a set but as I'm 800k from the nearest exhaust shop I cant get what I want made till June. However if someone is looking at getting these, and wouldn't mind getting a second cat, muffler and pipe to suit and courier it to me I'd ne grateful!
