I have also pointed out that the auto VVT transfer case has a chain about 5mm narrower than the manual case. I also believe that the non VVT cases are also narrower. I have yet to confirm if they are the same in width or length.

Sierra 1.3, High: 1.409, Low: 2.268
Sierra 1.0, High: 1.590, Low: 2.558

So given my 2012 jimny auto has a 1.27 transfer ratio in high and 2.54 ratio in low if I got a sierra 1.0 tranfer in with stock gearing i would be about 25% reduction in high and a approx 1% reduction in low? and with a 1.3 transfer stock gearing it would be a approx 11% reduction in high but approx 10-11% taller in low? Am I on the right track or should I put the beer down and read a book? gearing ratio stuff confuses me no end.

Yes. Its all just maths.

You're only benefit would come from a gear set in one of the boxes, giving you reduction in both.

I don't under stand why people use percentages its much easier to see it in ratios and far more simple to understand.

Because it's easy to work tyre size correction in percent when talking about high range.

Personally I use percentage for high range and ratio for low.
