so give or take an inch it is fairly true then? If so it's good to know and eases my mind that I will not be hard put to follow mates trucks with 35s on them, also meaning that I don't need to worry about going much larger then 30

+/- 10mm. Only under the diff is similar. The rolling diameter means a lot more than pumpkin clearance IMO.

I guess it wasn't so unrealistic, when considering all individual types of suzukis (smallest vs largest of all combinations) But it was the blanket statement which drew the call of bullshit and why its not realistic. For the smallest diff vs the biggest diff its true, what about the difference between a GU front and vitara rear. Anyway, back to topic. Speak to the engineer concerned etc, relying on snippets of info will probably cause headaches etc

Thats an 11" larger tyre to start with not to mention the diffs needed to run them and the amount of lift/body chopping needed to fit them. Originally engineered by VTOL Engineering. In about 2010... His well know for passing anything Like if you ever want anything passed his your guy He got his licence taken off him after the pajero plus a few 2door imports. But has it back. Yeah, knew of that one on 42"s, but was thinking more road going and non dodgy engineering, coz thats not really engineered if he lost his licence over it

Every car that was done after vtol's dodgy passing's was brought back in.
If its engineered now, its still holds. Not dodgy.
Every engineer now will not be dodgy as the rms/rta are sure to work it out who is passing what. There are hilux's out there still being passed on 35's with testing in NSW. Sure further mods are required to pass these tests. But every engineer is going by their own rules following the rta/rms. Some want 4" max lift, Some want 1200 to headlight centre no matter what car.

There are loop holes you can jump through like spoa on mine is engineered as a diff relocation not a lift but wheels carnt be changed it's all because of wheelbarings unless you can get bigger stronger wheelbarings you carnt go bigger tyres

If you put the effort in and fit bearings from a car known to carry far more weight then a suzuki and run much bigger tyres then a suzuki you have provided an engineer with the means satisfy the regulations, and surely you could probably engineer much much larger tyres then the stock suzuki's. It's all about the Roads authority ensuring that we are putting in appropriate effort into our mods and not just shortcutting everywhere. You'll get anything engineered if you put a proportional amount of effort in.

IN NSW you can engineer anything, if you can prove that it complies with the relevant ADR's. Any other VSB.. document is a guide only.
Anything out of the ordinary will require both brake and swerve testing at a minimum.
I was at the ACMC conference at Eastern Creek this year, when one of the hot rod guys asked this question of the RMS.
He asked if he was to put a blown and injected 454 into a Torana. and through engineering he could prove that it wasn't going to turn itself inside out, it passed noise/emissions/vision and brake and handling tests would it be passed for full rego. The answer from the RMS was we'd prefer you didn't but yes, we would register it.
FWIW I know of a JK Wrangler on 37's that has been completely engineered including wheels/tyres under the new rules.
Look up the engineers list and call the guy in Orange if your coming up with loose ends. He's switched on and is a car enthusiast.

An 80 series with mog404's and 42's is being built to be engineered i think.

He did the lane change test on my car back in September last year (actual engineering was done by Sean at SRK in Bathurst). At that time he was looking to do less engineering and just provide the testing services to other engineers. Other people at the testing venue that day had traveled from all over the state to have Treeve do their engineering tests. Treeve and Sean were both great to deal with and I would recommend calling either of them if you need some advice or an Engineer. - Tim.

Ok still talking to the engineer about the 31's and he looked into it further for me and this is his reply:
"You can only fit 50mm larger diameter than standard on this vehicle, which would be 225/75 or 215/80 15", The only way around this is to install complete diffs and suspension and brakes etc for a vehicle with bigger tyres as std then and 50mm. This is major work and not something someone with limited experience should do.
Offset on rims max allow is 12.5 mm per side increase, 1" overall wheeltrack increase allowed.
50mm body lift OK"
So I did a quick search for brake upgrades for Jimny but nothing really came up - can anyone shed light as to what brake conversions or upgrades are available? I remember a post showing the track width of different axles so I will try to find that again or has anyone got any ideas for conversion? I was guessing pretty much going to hilux that way they will be ok for upto 33's according to the engineer.
I will ask for a bit more info about only being allowed max 1" overall wheeltrack increase.
Otherwise I will just have to stick with 225's if worse comes to worse
Any thoughts or input appreciated.

Why not, not engineer it?
Or just engineer the lift?
The track increase is per axle, so a 80 diff is 1600WMS but can still have an extra 1" on that.
With axle swap, you will also need to do an abridged brake test, or swap the diffs MC/booster into the car so your swapping the diffs from.

I just wanted to engineer everything because everything I have ever owned that has and has not been engineered - I have been pulled over in and the non engineered were a real headache. Also for the cost of engineering something vs crashing into a 80k luxury car and insurance deciding not to pay up because you have things that are not engineered its not worth the risk, and last because I would never buy anything myself that was not engineered so I figure if I ever decided to sell that having it all engineered makes it easier to sell.
I am happy to do it a bit at a time, do it right and make everything work 100% how I want it so its just a matter of figuring out which path to take. One engineer said I needed to do that abridged brake test, the other said I need to swap the brakes and everything else so at this stage still collecting info on all my options and keeping in touch with the engineers about it all.
