Now that I have put the new transfer case in, the hand brake light is stuck on, is this related to the wiring in thr t/case.if so whats the fix, if not have I knocked something while playing under the car?

Pretty sure the handbrake light switch is mounted to the lever inside the cabin. You might have to take the center console off and check the wiring and switch.

Got myself another transfer case today
from a written off 2004 model with 5000kms on the clock.
Will put it in on the weekend. If it doesn't fix the problem I'll be throwing one God-almighty tantrum......

Good luck with that, let us know how you go!!!!
A 2004 should be fine, it will fix the problem for sure, but they are a real pain in the arse to get out... you will need a couple of very long rachet extentions and a swivel adaptor to get to the top two bolts, and take the t/case shifters out before you start, it makes thing so much easier.
If you need any tips, just let me know.

Yes those top two bolts suck arse!, they added an extra hour of pissing around to the job. I didn't have a socket/extension combo that worked (Long sockets) I had to do them with a ring spanner through the gearshift hole, had to remove the gearshift extension as well. P.I.T.A!
I did it at home on ramps, could have waited another week and used a friends hoist but I'm impatient. Would have made lifting the t-case in and out a bit easier but getting those goddamn bolts out take the most time.
This is the second time I've pulled the T-case out so nothing was a surprise for me, except the exhaust flange bolts being frozen this time. I've Taken the whole gearbox and transfer out before to do the clutch and it is just as hard, you need about a metre of extensions to get some of the bolts out of the bellhousing and surprise surprise the top two bolts are damn near impossible
Lots of metal flakes in the oil this time....I've been putting up with it clunking and grinding for a long time
I just have to put the shifters and the trim back in the morning and it'll be good to go, got too dark and cold to get it finished today (plus the trouble and strife had the shits on cause she'd been stuck with the baby all day).
We'll see how it goes tomorrow when I get another trailer load of rocks from the paddock at the in-laws place. I barely made it out last weekend it was slipping that badly.
P.S: Suck shit Collingwood

If you get a chance to fix the handbrake light, let me know how you fixed it.
I haven't had time to fix mine yet so I don't know if it's just a loose wire or something more complicated.
Glad to hear everything is working well.

Hmmmm, Yes. I noticed that wire that was trying it's hardest to get caught under the gearshift boot flange, I thought I had beaten it.

No, you have to take the transfer out.
It will cost you about $400 -$500 for new gears and anywhere between $150 - $350 fro a second hand transfer case. Just replace the whole thing, it much cheaper and easier.
Just make sure you buy a transfer from a 2000 model to 2004.

mine is a 99 V6 and it was doing the same thing. I bought a 2000 T/C and now it is fine, but the later the better. If you can find one thats 2002 + you are better off.
