The brake wobble was definitely a separate issue (type of wobble) to the standard death wobble usually related to worn kingpin bearings/seals/preload. Having said that though, the brake wobble was similar in feel to the standard death wobble in that when it happen the whole car would shake violently and the steering wheel was difficult to manage. As such when it first happened i mistakenly though it was the classic death wobble.

I now know having experienced a wobble related to braking, and a different one being the classic death wobble usually related to worn kingpin bearings/seals/preload that though the two wobbles though feeling similar in their uncontrollably, were caused by two separate issues (for me any way).

My apologies, I don't think my description of the pads slapping against the discs was perhaps the best. What i was trying to describe was the pads not contacting the discs as intended when the brake pedal was pressed. When we stripped it down to have a look at the braking issue and measured the thickness of the discs they were under the FSM minimum thickness but it is also entirely possible that they we also warped to an extent. Having said that though, i didn't really notice the classic pulsing pedal feel you get with badly warped discs. As they were undersized when measured, they were binned straight away and a new set of discs and pads went in which sorted out the brake wobble issue.

I have a 2017 Jimny with 6500 km on the clock. I started noticing the wobble at 70 to 80 k. It was not bad, but I could reproduce it anytime. The first thing I did was to find these forums and read this thread. Good education. After the read, and some of the guys experiences with dealers, I decided I was not going to have a dealer "fix" the problem. Also, I live in Romania, no stellar rep for auto service work. Since this is basically a new truck, I decided to go straight to the king pin shims, thanks to Steak_Knifes info. So I ordered up the bits and got busy. I ended up with a 0.4mm shim in the uppers and a 1.0mm shim in the lowers. my scale read about 4kg starting torque to move the knuckles. When I went higher, the movement felt "notchy', so a left it as described above and the movement was smooth. After assembly, I did a test drive and it felt great with no wobble. Before shimming, I could demonstrate wobble at will. I will be doing a hunt soon and be doing considerable driving and I will post a status report. Many thanks to all who posted on this thread. RJ
