does any one know what it could or does it sound familiar...

Did you use the right oil? Front or rear?
I remember reading something about them staying engaged. Maybe do a search?

Mine stays engaged all the time, if it's the front just turn your wheels left and right and it should disengage, mine does.
Or try reverse and turn the wheels, and why isn't the hose connected

It's in the rear...
Yeah it's the right oil...
We didn't turn it on while a wheel was spinning...
We're tried reversing it didn't work...
We took the hose off to make sure there was no air in it

Put the air line back on and engage and disengage it a few times then reverse while turning.
If that doesn't work I'm afraid youll have to pull,it out

Been watching this thread for a while guys.
was thinking of making the plunge in the next couple of months, but going with a ARB locker. Ive already got a compressor fitted, and i prefer to run my own electrics and air lines. so the install would basically be for the locker itself only.

What would i expect ARB to slug me just to fit that on its own? am i better off taking the diff center out and taking it to them? if so, is that a big job to do and do would i need any precision measuring equipment to re-fit? Ive done ALL mechanical work on my car up to this point if that gives you an idea of my abilitys. its just the precision work im a bit nervous about.

I'm doing this in the next month or so :)

They're charging me $360 to fit both the lockers and I do the rest.
Lockers were around $1060 each

That's just taking the centres in... Otherwise the fitting is a little over $500 per locker :/

okay, so are you able to answer the 2nd part of my question.
Is it hard to remove the center? is it just the guts of the pumpkin you take in? and how easy is it to re-fit

From what I understand you have to remove axles and all the rest to get it out... Not exactly sure on the whole process, I'll have a mechanic helping me do it :)

Someone on here should be able to help you out with that but?

Put the car on safe stands.
Remove oil from axle.
Remove wheels and axles.
Drop the drive (Tail) Shaft.
Remove nuts around differential.
Pull differential out.
Take to ARB and give them a heap of money.
Reverse the above order.
Done.

Not at all Shanish - I agree about ARB - I hate places that ripoff just because they build a name.

Cost me $190 to fit all new bearings and locker into center at my local ARB.
Do what the boys said above to remove the rear center. If your getting the front done, there a bit more involved and it's a pita to get the front center back in.

Yopu may need a slide hammer to get the axles out (they can be a bastard at times) apart from that it is a fairly easy job.

yeah i was only keen on getting single locked when i eventually go ahead.

Sounds like a piss easy job, i can handle that. i was kinda thinking id have to get dial guages out n stuff around with tolerances or something. if not AWESOME!

If not ARB, who else would fit it??? keep in mind im in Brownsville.... dont know WHO to trust up here mech wise.

Any half decent mechanic should be able to do it, but bear in mind they have to be able to set up the back lash etc. so get some local refferals

Ok, ill put the feelers out amongst the 4x4 specialists in town. Just waiting from a call back from ARB, no one was available to talk to.
Is LROR still the cheapest for the RD208 for the rear. (i assume thats what i need on the Jim)

just heard back from em, "yeah bout 300-350 if you bring center in"
he asks me a HEAP of questions about the locker, if its brand new in the box, is it arb etc etc. then i ask him what about the generic ones
"nope not touching it"
he rekons had another bloke bring one in (dunno what car), took the center out, pulled the locker out of the box and was missing a bit. couldnt get car off hoist until they got the part... now they wont touch em.

whatever.....
didnt bother asking how much locker was on its own.

that's a rip off imo, $300 is too much, i hear every one complain how cranky arb and there high price are.
my local one is ran by a family and there always more then happy to help, cheap too.(laybour work)
also if you get it done by arb, then you will have some thing to full back on if some thing goes to shit.
rd208 from lror should be about $960 delivered, that what it cost me last year. price could change by thenn though.

$300-$350 is a crap price for fitting. It would cost me $400 for a drive-in, drive-out locker fit out at my local ARB....my rear locker was $1550 fitted...yeh steep when you could save $200-$400 on labour and getting one from the US, but WHEN it packs up, you simply drive back to ARB and tell them to fix it

LROR was 960 PLUS postage when i looked today, so 1100 total pretty much.

I figured its a steep price to fit. but what choice do i have? short of driving to cairns and trying that ARB.
