Somebody has added that wire to power something 'non standard' up.
Didn't you say in a previous post there is a hundred relays and the wiring is a mess?
Sierras come with no (0) relays from factory.

ITS ALIVE....... and you will never believe what was the problem from the start......
OK so after fixing the starter and getting the battery all charged up it still wouldnt start. The workshop just down the road from us had a 94 sierra in for a service so while they were working on it I had a good look at all the wires going to and from the battery, starter, altinator, coil, dizzy and into the firewall. Then I went back to mine and started ripping out all the extra wires. And boy did I find some crap. It had a turbo timer, remote starting, imobilizer and 3 different relays running spotlights. The 3rd wire going to the starter was for the remote starting. The reason the 3rd wire looked like it was coming out of the factory wireing loom was because the factory wire loom was pulled back into the firewall and ran through a relay and some other box for the remote starting and from that was the new harness with the other wire went to the starter. A nother wire ran to the coil for the kill switch.
Well after all the extra wires were out and the actual factory wires were back in place. It started first go.......
I can't even begin to stell you how pissed off I was but at the same time jumping out of my skin thanking god that it was running.
So tomorrow all I need to do is put all the coolant hoses back on and weld up the down pipe and its time to go take out some aggression...
I have no idea what was actualy stoping it from starting but its all off now and it starts and runs...
Thank you all for your help.

I hate buying cars with dodgy wiring . Had to do the same with my new one. Basically ripped out everything that wasn't stock and started from scratch

I have a feeling the kill switch that was wired to the coil may have caused most of my headache....

The guy that I got the car from put all kinds of crap on it. I pulled 2 different blue tooth kits out of it there are little LEDs all under the seats and dash. I have 6 different spotlights and only 2 of them are wired up but the relay they run through is locked up. There is a small flood light on the rear bumper that was wired to the blinker??? All I can say is I got a SIerra that has next to no rust, already lifted big wheels and for a very cheap price. Now I just need to get it how I want it.

v.w.dave wrote: Ok so I finally had the time today to get my engine back into my sierra. Its a freshly rebuilt 8v 1.3L head that had been shaved 40 thou. The block is 16v 1.6L w ith new rings and bearing. I checked the valve clearance and know the valves and pistons dont touch and confermed with Suzifours that the 8v 1.3 will work on the 16v 1.6 block. They had a running engine there with the same combo of head and block but there head had 55thou shaved off so I know mine is fine.
All the timing marks are lined up. Crank mark (dot) is at the top lined up with the arrow on the block The cam key is pointing down making the timing mark on the sproket line up with the mark on the timing cover. I cross checked all of this on alldata and the suzuki factory manual so I know they are right. The distributer dizy is slightly pointing back at the fire wall in the direction of the pasanger side of the sierra. Inline with the cyl 1 spark plug wire. once again checked on alldata and factory manual. I have between 153 and 155 PSI compresion on all 4 cylinders. (this was checked with the other 3 spark plugs in turning over for 5 seconds) I have spark at the coil I have spark at the cap I have spark at all 4 spark plugs I have adjusted the distributer advance/retarding I have fuel coming out of the pump I can see fuel coming out of jets in carby I the correct oil level (not that it will affect it starting) I dont have the radiator in so there is no coolant (not that it would affect it) I have messed around with the a few of the vac lines. I have tried half a can on start you bastard. when turning it over it turns at a good speed
When spinning it blows a bit of smoke back up through the carby then farts and back fires but will not start.
What am I missing????? I spent 6 hours today trying to get this engine started and I am out of ideas.
My only guess is that the spark isn't strong enough making me think the coil is loosing its kick. The spark at the plug is a dull blue. But in my expierance even with a week spark it will kick and kind of run.
I am all out of ideas and have never had this much trouble getting a rebuilt engine started.
I know I am going to get some flack over this but I NEED HELP
Yep....

I did but as I said it looked very weak. And I also said I honestly don't know what wasn't letting it start. All I know is after removing all the extra BS out of the engine and ignition it started first crank.

Nope infact I call myself a service manager. But back when I was working on the cars for a living I would have called my self a VW Tech. And it may come as a shock to you but I only ever really worked on VW.
At no point did I ever say I knew anything about zooks this is the first one I have messed with. Infact I have said a few times I feel retarded looking under the hood. SO if you havent noticed I have called myself a idiot a few times dont need you to tell me I have that base covered already.
I have no problem in saying I dont know something. To you this is a simple motor. Well to me changing the long coding on a gen5 golf so the dorrs will auto lock, recode a airbag unit to use a PODS system or checking the P.W.M. of the tail light. Mabey you could help me set up the sensor for the addaptive cruise controle or changing a setting on a rain sensor. is easy to me. Why dont you come on down and show me how easy you find it?????

There is a huge difference between 'Mechanic' and 'Technician'.
I've always been of the opinion that the apprentice scheme needs a radical overhaul so that trainees can only do a maximum of 12 months of their 4 years at a factory dealer garage/workshop.
I am so glad I worked out bush for so long..
2 Small town garages where we had to fix anything that rolled through town with virtually no spare parts.
1 small engine shop repairing/rebuilding lawnmowers/chainsaws,motorcycles etc.
1 engineering shop.
1 Volvo specialist. I was the non volvo specialist and did all the Fords, Holdens, Toyotas etc that came in.
As well as a few other jobs inbetween where I was resident fitter/mechanic.
Once you know the basic priciples of how stuff works finding a problem with virtually any piece of machinery is only a matter of elimination.
I do admit that fault finding on electronic euro trash would take me a long time to rectify but I never wanted to be an electrician anyway.
Glad your car is finally running, now you can take it out and roll it!

Sounds very hard, using a scantool and proberly a service bulletin of some kind telling you how to do it step by step.
maybe you should stay in the office and let the big boys do there jobs

X2
I am happy for my expierance and I love what I do. I can run circles around most people I know with VW and most german makes but honestly I am not a good mechanic. That is simply due to the fact that I only know my kink in the chain. I wish I had spent a few years in different shops outside of VW and Audi.
To add to that I think in training they should also use welding equitment.
But I will say Want33s I fully support your thoughts on training but the last thing you said was uncalled for and shows your ignorance as a person. But if I did miss understanding the fact that you wish that I go roll my zook I am sorry.
