DiscoS, Will the baleno tacho swap behind the stock face like leafys or no? If yes, Why not just do it that way?

I'm going to take a look at my rev counter to work out what change I need to make to it, my soldering iron just packed up so it will be next week now.
Edit: Thinking it over, I'm not sure that I have a rev counter - it may be that I was planning to swapping the cluster.

Well, I'd have to do some trimming to get it to fit in the coily cluster, plus, the circuits are almost identical, with the only major differences being an extra resistor, and different ICs.

I heard people saying that they managed to fix it by simply changing some of the resistors, and I found this thread, but he just references the file "ae86gzetacho.pdf" which is referenced everywhere, with the incredibly frustrating comments of "Yeah, it's great, just do what the pdf says" "It worked for my engine swap too!"

Rhino, if you've got a backup copy of this file, I would be eternally grateful if you could send it to me, it's absolutely shattering that such a useful reference may have disappeared from the internet completely!

I believe this diagram was used to make this. It came in a sierra that I bought that was running a baleno g16b. I've put it into my cluster and the factory tacho works perfectly.

I don't think that I have a copy of that pdf. I believe that the chip is just a frequency to voltage converter. I have a Vitara tach here which uses the Denso 056956-0140 chip. I've been very busy this weekend and when I have been here I've had electricians in and no power. I will try and look at it this week.
I'm not sure about that schematic above, 'm pretty sure that there should be a fly-back diode across that coil - it depends on what is in the tach circuit. It looks like they are trying to implement a crude averaging circuit.

So I think I've figured out my problem, my ground (Pin A1, which is left-most pin on larger connector) isn't connected directly to ground. I have around 7kOhm resistance, which is weird because the FSM simply indicates it connects directly to ground, and the other weird thing is the colour of the wire is B/W, which is identical to the IGN circuit, which is incredibly poor engineering.

But when I connect it to ground, my tacho works!!

So I was hoping somebody here could bust out the voltmeter, ohmmeter, and check if they have continuity from this pin to ground?

Cheers guys!

Seems to be, I don't have a proper interface to test whether or not it's 100% spot on, but I've replaced the resistor with the one from the baleno Tacho and it seems to be going oka (haven't reinstalled cluster yet, just a needle moving atm) movement is prompt, and seems the same as the baleno tacho to me.

But I'm now genuinely worried about the wiring.

Checking circuits, I have ~20kOhm between A1 and chassis ground, but 140 Ohm between A1 and IGN (A1 is cluster internal grounding).

Currently combing through FSMs to see if anything will shed some light
