Got these tyres 31x10.5 for $215 each on new rims. Yet to fit then but they don't look too bad. Used my tyre budget on something else so had find a cheaper tyre.






Couldn't find much info on them so I'll see how they go.

TSL Bias I am looking at the smaller sizes.

Terrain will realistically be sandy mud that you get on the flood plains, dirt roads and bitumen. Some climbing up skatey coffee rock too.

The size I am looking mostly at are the 32*9.5. The three criteria I would like to know: How's the ply rating (6 ply) ?

Obviously they are going to be woeful onroad, so how horrible were they

And how did they perform?

Can you get them here? Other suggestions for a 32*9.5?

I've run 9/32 and 9/34 swampers.

I'm not sure I'd recommend 9/32's. I reckon they're too small to be useful. Swampers like a bit of a dig, and by the time you air down, diff clearance might start raising its head.

I've run 9/34's for years and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. They are an excellent size on a sierra with a really great height/width ratio.

Personally I think 9/34's are better on road than the 35" Krawlers I currently run, but they aren't directionally stable like a radial. They have plenty of "drift" in them. You also have to learn to not fight them, or else you end up chasing the drift for ever.

Would I run them if you're doing lots of dirt road and tarmac driving? No. They're off road tyres. They're going to be very expensive, and putting up with their road manners (and relatively high tread wear) with plenty of road/2wd dirt driving isn't smart. I also strongly believe any super aggressive bias tyre needs to be on a beadlock. Bias tyres have a very stiff sidewall compared to a radial, but a very flexible tread. This is great for an off road tyre - the sidewalls are tough, and you get great traction from the tread flexibility, but you need to run them low (circa 5 psi) to work properly, even as a 6 ply. This adds to the cost, weight, legality (swampers don't meet ADR's - they're certed under DOT whist isn't recognised here) and general piggishness of working with swampers.

Please don't think I'm not recommending them - their performance is just excellent and they're my favourite off road tyre, it's just that if you add in distance and road work I think they're not a great choice.

I'd look at something like 235 85 16 federal couragias - probably 1/2 the price of a swamper and a radial.

Thanks Steve. Exactly the kind of answer I was looking for.

I was thinking of running a set of locks with these tires. And here's the reasoning:

I dont wanna go with huge tires on this car, but I wanna be able to get more traction than is currently available, i.e. I wanna sort of cheat in a way.

My thinking was to run the largest narrow set of tires that would fit, in an aggressive pattern, run at a low to no pressure. I may just keep a second set of 30s, or 31s for any distance trips I make or daily driving if I desire to do so.

Hey guys,

I have got two front bald tyres and the rear are probably bout 30% I am currently running BFG AT 215 / 75 / 15.
I have been quoted $200 a tyre for replacements from Bob Jayne on special.
The guy at bob jayne said I could run 30 /9.50 /15 at $220 a tyre.

Was jus wondering what you guys think wether to replace 4 or just match the front two, I would like to go a bit bigger tyres if possible but are the 30's too big as I am just running a stock 93 lwb vitara and its probably 80% road driving.

30,s would really be best with some form of gearing change to suit, you may have limited options for changing high range, but there are transfer gears available for low range.
If you find you're hitting diffs alot when out on the track maybe its a good idea , but maybe have a look at a M/T as it will be alot better off road, than an A/T

2 months old. Car is 600kg over stock gvm and gets driven at up to 180kph and then still very hot and with 55psi in it get
smashed over anything in the bush. I have MTRs and don't drive as fast and have lower pressures but still kill at least 1 a week

Car has engineered gvm upgrade. I don't go over 150 in mine, mainly cos its new and I don't want to kill it yet.
Has enough fuel capacity to sit on 130kph for 1200km before refuelling.

Haha it's a different shape but still works. Has no mudflaps, inner guards or side marker left. Mirrors will prob fall off soon. .gov cars go harder, faster and further then hire cars

Picked up 3x Bridgestone Dueler A/T 225 75 15 D694's today for $145 each balanced and fitted.

Was quoted $260 each on the first ring around but then worked out they were quoting on D697's.


The D694's are apparently discontinued now but if you ask for them specifically you can get a good price on remaining stock.
Tempotyres in Sydney have them listed online at $139.

Looking around, not everyone likes them, but some do and it's a known brand for a budget price.

Think about the number of 31's they'd sell compared to the 30's & 235's... That's the only reason why 31's are cheap.

Yup true.

My local tyre dealer had the km2 235/75's for $199 when i booked it in for the 7th. Called them up today because their online prices had changed to make sure they would keep the quoted price (S800 for tires, $300 for rims) and they refused to honour the old price even though i had pre booked.

Now it will be $1,000 for the same tires. Not happy.
