I don't understand this statement at all.

Take a standard sierra. No lift, no body lift, standard bumpstop placement. Now unbolt the standard 26" tyres and bolt on 33" tyres. You can't. It will hit panels everywhere. Now if you take a grinder and remove the offending material from the guards, corner of firewall and behind the headlights, amazingly it now fits. Now you flex it up on the standard suspension, standard offset wheels etc. If you have removed enough panels, I cannot see how this mod alone does not allow the fitment of larger tyres.

Please enlighten me. :?

Try turning a corner

Yeah? And?

Like I said. If you remove enough of the guards etc to account for bigger tyres ( this would ofcoarse account for increased scrub radius) the what is the issue?

yeah what red said you cant chop the chassis or the springs so when ya turn you are limited in size by the chassis and springs.

so to get the bigger tyres on you need to put larger offset rims on.

see im now saying you cant fit larger tyres with a guard chop because of this and that its as silly as saying you cant fit larger tyres with lift because of this and that.

Yeah you're right. Lift won't help you to clear the springs or chassis

Well I have WT diffs on a NT. Not even close to the springs. Not even with a 15x10" rim.

But I guess thats outside my initial scenario. Still, its a simple mod that allows you ro retain your standard suspension setup.

So I guess guys with WT sierras are fucked then.

haha but ya cant swap diffs when ya do a guard chop.

the statement that lift doesn't let ya fit bigger tyres is just as retarded as saying that ya cant use bumpstop spacing with lift.
i couldn't give a fuck how ya fit bigger tyres however saying that
something doesn't work when it clearly does is just stupid and then to back your
argument up by saying that ya cant do a critical step is just American. (that's an insult)

so just in case ya missed it

i dont give a fuck how ya fit bigger tyres, however lifted springs+bumpstop
spacing=fitting bigger tyres and to say otherwise is is just a little strange

5 points for effort.

In my case, my suspension did allow my 30s" to never scrub in the back, the springs will at absolute maximum stop allowing uptravel about 10mm off the guards
But at the front without my ext bumps they will scrub

So, spring lift +2" shackle alone CAN prevent any scrubbing with my 3" oversize tyres
Just get rock hard springs haha

Thats lift then isnt it?
My RUF with extended shackles gave me the same amount of lift as the 2"OME springs I put in the back. :?

This thread brings the lolz.

Actually, here's a thought:

The black hardtop runs 35's with no lift. If the owner put 2" lift springs in it, would it clear 39's?

PS - the "extended shackles" on the hardtop run scarily flat at ride height - they are not introducing any lift, I can assure you.

Chopz - RUF dies normally equal quite a bit of lift (2" or so) , but this car runs a very short chassis extension, very flat three leaf packs and a very flat shackle angle (so flat it looks almost inverted when fully compressed) . It has vitara bumpstops directly under the chassis and about 20mm of compression travel. That's the same amount of compression travel as most stock sierras with heavily sagged springs.

and how much offset on the rims or wheel spacers or are they hilux diffs?

i thought i had.

What i typed was asking how much offset that thing with 35s was running or if it had wheel spacers or if indead it had no zuk diffs under it. coz i get close to narrower than narrow track springs with widetrack diffs and massive offset rims with 34's so 35 on standard offset i recon would be picking up the springs. leading to him saying you can just guard chop and put bigger tyres on being wrong like he is saying the same about lifting.

at a guess i'd say he only lifted it about 6inch's in the body, so thats sprung over with a sagged springs and a 2inch body....

I may have read that wrong.. But that Zook appears to have sagged springs and spoa? AND the 6" body lol

Yeah thats my point, originally you said the only assitance it had to fit the tyres, was guard chopping, but it hasnt. Its had a small chassis extension, extended shackles, vitara bumpstops, etc, etc.

So its not a matter of just cutting ya guards up, throwin on a set of 35's and off ya go. Theres more involved, thats all I was getting at.

All of the highlighted quote above is purely for the RUF conversion. It would not necessarly be there to facilitate 35's.

And all this talk of offset rims having to be used etc is redundant. Ofcoarse you need bigger rims to fit 35's. They won't fit onto a 5.5" sierra rim will they? Most 8" rims available in a 5 on 5.5" PCD have enough offset to accomodate the new shoes.

I understand that it was done for the RUF and not to accomodate 35's, what I'm getting at is you cant just expect to buy a standard sierra, cut the shit out of the guards, put some 35's on, and have it perform/flex in the same way as the 1 pictured, coz other mods have taken place. Nothing to do with lift at all, but the fact that it has been altered, and isnt as it came from factory is my point.

There's been quite a lot of work done to that car to run 35's and function the way it does, but that's irrelevant to this topic (really, it is)

For the record, they are KMC beadlock rims. I can't recall the offset at the moment but they are pretty close to 5P as per a stock sierra. The tyres are 35 13.5 Krawlers.

Axles are WT sierra.

It does not run wheel spacers.

It runs vitara power steering.

We had to narrow track the front spring spacing to achieve steering lock. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone and is irrespective of spring lift height, and mostly because of the outrageous width of the tyres and a desire to keep the overall width of the car sane.

It's possible to run 35's with wide track spring spacing - use a Q78 15 on a 6" or 7" rim, for example. I have done this.

Chopz - it's entirely possible to cut the guards on an otherwise standard sierra and run 35's. It would be a lot of work, and no, it wouldn't work as well as that car, but that's exactly my argument. Modifications for capability are one thing, spring lift height is another. The fact that car is the same spring height as a stock sierra an runs no bumpstop spacing is part of why it works the way it does - purely from a stability point of view.

Desirable spring lift height is a by product of acceptable compression travel and acceptable stability. For me, it has nothing to do with intended tyre size. Tyre size is achieved by other means, because a lifted spring won't clear a bigger tyre by itself.

See, that is the part I don't understand.

My first car was an 85 dual cab hilux. First weekend I had it, I put on 33 inch BFG muddies. They scrubbed while turning, and going over speedbumps, etc.

The second weekend I put in 2 inch lifted springs, and suddenly the tyres cleared. No scrubbing.

You have probably forgotten more about zooks than I will ever know Steve, so I am probably overlooking something dumb here, but I just cannot figure out what you mean when you say spring lift won't clear a bigger tyre, when it did.

because the tyres can still move up to the same point in the guard where they will touch, with the lift they jsut have to travel further (and require more weight on the suspension) to get there, in practice due to spring rate ad so on they may never get there because there jsut isnt enough weight to push em that far

on my vit the tyres will smash into teh rear arch lips and jam into teh rear of the front wheel arch on full lock to the point that they get stuck there, with no lift that would happen on flat ground, with lift it doenst do it on flat ground now but still will flexed, if I spaced teh bumpstops then it wouldnt as it cant travel to teh same spot
