corolla turned up yesterday....
the mrs.. who said she didnt mind that i was building a 4b suddenly minds that there is yet another car at our house!!!
bad luck honey
i will be pulling the motor out over the next weeek or so. once the corolla motor has been bolted to the new gear box, then i will take out the sierra one.

the engine runs great. starts piss easy and revs real nice
i havent read into the spring situation as much yet. i am concentrating on getting the engine to connect to the gearbox.
but the ruf sounds the go. with 35's it will want to wheel stand at all the wrong times! i have the lux springs but i think they may be too stiff. i can always take leafs out to soften them a bit i suppose.
what have you decided on in the same regards?
any luck with finding your motor?

hehe, one thing at a time hey!! I've read up some info on spring setups.. some reckon zook rears on the front of the zook, and hilux fronts on the rear of the zook?? My zook springs are quite nice atm, after removing leafs, and doing some other bits and pieces, and the lux ones are totally flat.. no curve what so ever. And stiff. Havent looked into the motor yet buddy.. that will come after the SOA

if you do your motor ofter soa, you will have to redo angles and perches all over again. your t case will be pushed back if you use a corolla motor and therefore fuck over all of your driveshaft work you did to mod it to soa.
if you are going to go soa, then motor, i would seriously look into using a 1.6 baleno motor so you can still use the sierra box and not have to move anything.
otherwise you'll have to undo all the hardwork your putting into it.

yuo will actually get more flex out of a flatter spring pack than that of a curvier one.
if it is pre set heaps, then they have to push harder to try and flex up into the wheel arches, which in turn means the body will roll more and could end up in having a nap.
I THINK!

no that a rubbish internet rumour
there are variables related to spring arch but not much

could you please explain more kind sir?
as i have a set of hilux springs that i could use. they are a 2" lifted set. obviously i would have to take a few springs out but if it is possible to use them and if they would work ok then i would definatley consider using them.
at the moment they have a curve in them of about 300mm where as my stock zook ones are relatively straight. about 50-75mm of curve.

all things being equal a bit of spring steel is going to be no harder to band straight from a 300mm curve than to bend from flat to a 300mm curve
there may be variables in how the shackle behaves but there are a heap more variables to worry about
that rumour spouts from people doing a springover and not moving the bumpstops, spring that have settled flat seem to be able to hit the bumpstop without damage but lifted ones seem to be pushed too far and bend pretty quickly

my concern was that a spring with more arch would have a greater circumference.
the flat spring and an arched spring would both still touch the same spring mounts.
BUT
under flex the arched one would be too long to start bending over its back and would therefore not flex as well.
does this make sense???

no
all things equal longer spring = more flex
thats why you have shackles, to allow for the spring to flatten and get longer in a straight line

but if the spring had too much arc the shackle would need to be alot longer to allow for the spring to extend?
i'll have to have a look at a few different 4bs to see what setups they are running.
oh and by the way.... your lucky 100! go royce go! (post)

correct, thats why a lot of places wont make more than 2" liftr springs for sierra and any bigger generally have bumpstop extensions
not saying flat springs are bad, but they arent neccesaraly better based soley on that

Thanks heaps champ.. will make life alot easier!! Interesting to read what you's have been talkin about with the springs.. i can see where your coming from.. but by the sounds of it, its just "internet bullshit"!!! Question for Royce please!!! Do you know anything about zook rear springs on the front of the zook, and hilux front springs on the rear of the zook?

man you are going to have all kinds of dramas getting that engine in
4age is a RWD motor so the intake points in the other direction
4age has the dissy coming out the side of the head not the rear, your gunna need some massive holes in the firewall

I WIN!!!!
i took the whole day to go through it all slowly and pulled the motor out.
who'd of thought there would be 5 engine mounts for a corolla. i thought there was three and then 4 but no.. after trying to hoist the bastard out and lifting the car with it i realised there were 5.
but asides from that all went well. a little knock on the noggin but all is well.
i have come across an auto box to suit the 4age. would the auto box run better than the manual?
any opinions would be great

I here the auto box (jatco I think) is shorter and heaps of mods can be had for jatco boxes as they use them behind VL commies.
