Iridium's last longer.

that is true.. but doesnt mean that they are better.

i pay from 2 to 5 for standard plugs and between 16 and 25 for platinum/iridium equivilent.

Didnt say they were better. If i wanted hp id go for basic ones.

I just want to do the least amount of servicing done possible. oil change, check everything, thats it.

my iridiums lasted longer than the motor i cooked

x2! I only use NGK, Denso or Bosch. Never touched Champions. Don't bother with Iridium, you don't need them.

irridium are only good if your car is running perfect, it is running rich or your choke stays on for a while dont get them. just use original ngk standards

Iridiums are brilliant for cars with hard to get to plugs, ie; V6's etc

All Spark Plugs are not the same, you get what you pay for !

I used, Bosch Platinum Plus, Yttrium enhanced, a longer life plug, they are not the most expensive, and not the cheapest, a standard plug is about $4 each, the Bosch were about $7, a plug, so $30 for 4, not to bad...
The Bosch part is - P8-4 or the old part number - WR7DP, and they fit my 89 Vit with the G16A engine !

Iridiums believe it or not do work, seen numerous cars reduce fuel consumption with em fitted so something must be happening

I would be worried about any carby car keeping them clean enough to not chuck out after 20,000km though

NGK BKR5E or BKR5EY I would use, smaller hex so easier to fit and the ey means they have a grooved electrode so it moves the spark to the side

Champion gold are also good for power and cheap or Bosch Super 4's in theory should work (I had some really cold ones in my sierra for years and they were good)

i like the iridium only for the fact is in the long run you save as iridium change at 100,000km and normal ones at 20,000km some times even 10,000 which is what i do with a service so thats at 20,000 is 5 sets of plugs you dont have to pay for so i like them in that way but other wise i see no power gain or anything

Post subject:  Re: what spark plugs should i use?

I have run iridiums for over a year now. I had them in my G16 carb Sierra, then took them out and put them in my G13 Sierra. I also went up a heat range, so you'd think they'd foul easier in a dirty carby engine. I haven't had a problem with fouling so far in 25,000km. For the record, my standard NGK's in the 1.6 were pretty black last I checked! I don't think they'd last 100,000km or anywhere near that in a Zuk though.

Also, the Iridiums cost 4 times as much, but probably need changing half as frequently, so they probably cost twice as much in the long run. The only saving would be for people too lazy to spend 10 minutes changing plugs.

I have previously had great results from the old copper super 4 plugs from bosch - they were cheap too. Now the only multi-elctrode plugs they offer are platinum/iridium and they are a bit exxy.
