The problem with the standard tin top ute cab is the depth at the back see pic

as you can see no room for a decent seat. Can't fit anything behind either

Rear of cab is spot welded in so... What do u reckon?.. Drill out the spots and reverse the back of cab so it faces out instead of in. Or drill out the spots and move the cab back and weld in a piece of steel?

sounds like a damn good idea.
I never liked those cabs 'coz they're SO tiny.

I've thought about exactly the same thing for my ute. I haven't actually done it so I can't give any useful advice, but let us all know how it goes.

Good luck.

mine is a maruti and has a bit more room because of the fibreglass back, but even still its only just enough room for me to fit in gti seats.
Personally if going to that much effort i would try and add a bit more space for storage as well.

Yep know what you mean. I am thinking 100mm extension and down below tray height add some space for storage. Don't want to move the tray back too far. Is a short ute as it is.

mine also started life as a cab-chassis. cut the centre out leaving the gutter, then place as much of the rear of a hard top as you like. you would be surprised at how well it lines up.

while I'm was keen on seeing how moving the back wall works I actually moved away from that idea. Now I'm planning to chop around 600mm from around the rear wheel well of a SWB soft top and joining it back together again.

I also have a fibreglass hardtop which I'll do the same thing to.

This is on a lwb so it won't look too rediculous (I hope)

Here are some amateur pics of the proposed mods:

Thanks for the pic's and ideas I have some more research to do.
I like the look of the red one. Very tidy.
And yes I think the reverse would look odd! If I could of got hold of a fibreglass back I would of put that on and then built up the bottom section.
they are a bit hard to find and lots of $$
Thanks again
